new truck got smashed :(

yea its like 1200 in parts. and rest is refnishing and labor. bed side is 550, cab side is 380, and replace and install alot of parts. paint, prep. paint is 420. but they charge out the ass on labor :(

sounds like what happened to me and my dad, another volvo driver, she apparently doesnt understand what a red light means...., she got an f250 in the drivers door

dumbass, that was the truck i learned to drive in and 90% of the reason i want to be a mechanic, the rest is my ranger

If you can stand to drive it around wrecked, pocket the 4200 in your pocket or towards the loan if you owe on it- then later get an auto class at the college to fix it cheap!

i just got my new ranger last tuesday and it got smashed today, the whole ext cab portion on the pass. side is caved in and the bed is all cracked up, its a fiberglass step side bed. and i went to get a couple estimates today and there all around 4100-4200 i was wondering if anyone knows if they will total it out? i will get some pictures up tomorrow when i can see i kinda may have found a replacement truck, but the one i have is really nice and has been taken care of :bawling:

1999 ranger ext cab 4x4, 4.0 flareside, auto, a/c, no power windows, mirrors or locks.. but the previous owner had all the fluids, hoses and belts changed a year ago, just did oil change when i picked it up, i did a fuel filter, air filter and plugs in it, and was almost going to buy a wireset, but i will wait now to see what they do. it has 109200 miles on it

edit. the 4x4 motor looks pretty new

yeah i feel yah about two years ago when i bought my 01 i had it about a week and was on my way to work and the traffic had stopped so i was slowing down and all the sudden a bmw wasnt paying attention and reaended the tundra behind me sending him barreling into me, then the tundra bounced and so did the bmw, ****ing assholes, luckily all that was wrong were some bent bumper brackets and a tweaked out bumper, i heated those bad boys up and bent them back

That sucks about your truck. If you get into fixing it yourself I have this...
Picture063.jpg

i need one of those for my 88. i want to fit a speaker where a telephone pole crushed it in.

sorry to hear about your ranger. personally, i would still drive it like that if i couldnt fix it

general rule of thumb is within 80% of the value of the vehicle for repairs

Oh man guys, I'm going to get a picture!!! This is a guy that lives near me, stay tuned!:D

my accident story

It was a hot and sunny July 4th weekend in 1997 in Wildwood NJ. Just about to head home when I told my girlfriend at the time about the lighthouse at the tip of NJ in Cape May. She wanted to see it. So we headed to the 7-11 for some refreshments and started the 5 or so mile trek. Less than 5 minutes later a lady roll stopped at a stop sign and motored straight through an intersection. Thats as close as I want to get to a Ford Areostar..especially at 40 MPH. I saw it comming almost in slow motion. I thought of steering away but I would have hit some bystanders. So given I wasn'r wearing a seat belt (I know I know) I turned to my right to get away from the wheel cause I knew it was gonna hurt. That in turn created a void between me and the next available solid object in my truck.. the windshield. Night Night! I layed lifelessly on my girlfriends lap for what she said was about 5 minutes. I woke to her screaming bloody murder. You could imagine what was going through her head at the time with my not moving. After I came to I wondered what I was gonna see when I turned my head to look at her. Was her face bloody? Did she have broken bones? That moment sent chills down my spine. I than feel something wet on her leg. I was afraid to move not knowing what was wrong with me either but I turned my head to look up and she was covered in it... Juice!! The juice bottle she just got at the 7-11 shattered and was all over her. She didn't know it was that at the time either. But it was a blessing.

After getting our bearings straight I try to open my door. Nada! wouldn't budge. Than I hear someone from a distance say these infamous words to me. (I think someone is leaking gas!!) Not something I needed to hear when I can't open my damn door. I saw people everywhere.. but not where I needed them. Not a one person would get involved. In this day in age I understand the liability but at the time I didn't even know if my legs would hold me up.

I told her we have to get out.. NOW! I reached over and opened her door but she was too shaken to move. So i went over her and crawled down to the ground. Pulled myself up on the truck being thankful I could stand and got her out and went to the roadside. Never once smelling this gas someone thought they smelled. I did however remember looking at damage as we limped away and seeing oil on the ground. I remember thinking "man my truck is effed up".

The other people were already out of their van without a scratch. My head made the biggest spider web in the windshield. So much so you could feel the indentation on the outside as big as my head. Her head left just a little star on it.. thats's where weighing 97 lbs can help I guess.

Ambulances come and after I get in to get checked out I am told that my girlfriend may go to another hospital cause they were so busy that weekend. NOT the thing to tell me when we're 150 miles from home. Here comes the straight O2 to calm me down. Turns out we went to the same one anyway.

So what was our damage. Don't know really. The hospital was so overrun we were never checked out. I mind you was knocked out and had a hell of a headache and my shoe wouldn't come off my foot even after taking the laces out. That would be from the brake pedal. She had a bump on her head but was otherwise ok. I just wanted to go home.. somehow.

Now to my truck. I have picturs I'll have to scan them. In sheet metal it was just the hood and fenders. The real damage was under it all. The oil was from my motor mounts. All but one of them ripped. Who knew they were oil filled. The whole front clip and frame crowns had to be replaced. Shoved my tranny back pretty far too. I still have some plastic under the hood thats all scratched up from the fan getting shoved around.

All in all about 6 grand in damage with labor. I thought it was done for. But for some reason they fixed it. Needless to say out of everything they replaced it gave my truck some longevity componet wise or it would have probably been replaced by now anyway.

Ok, I'm done.. sorry for the long windedness

where do you live oilpatch? wow ressurection that really sucks. do you know what your truck was worth when it was hit? do you think they will fix it. i still get people who say yes, and no. idk?? im supposed to hear from my insurance and hers, my insurance company is going to get a police report to figure out if she was ticketed, because they let me go, and she was still there so i thought she got a ticket?

It wasn't worth alot when I bought it new which is why it shocked me when they fixed it. After all.. it is the "No Frills" version of the truck. It had less than 40k on it at the time i remember.

If the lady who hit you is ticketed thats an indication to the insurance company that she was at fault which is what they would use in court if her insurance company tries to fight anything. It's basically a leg to stand on. No matter how obvious something might seem lawyers can always turn something around on you. Sadly, even if it's not your fault, it still effects your premium just because you were involved. If you had 10 accidents and none of them were your fault.. you'd still pay dearly for them in insurance.
It's a sucky system

yea im still in the waiting stage, and idc if they either want to fix it, or give me money for a new one. if they are going to fix it, i want it fixed right. it sounds like a crappy system. i just hope it all gets resolved correctly :(

well i got a check for 4100 from our insurance company, and it will be getting fixed by us so we will be saving alot of money :)

hey wvcat, how much do you want for the side panel and where are you located?

The percentage for most insurance companies is 75% of your vehicles worth which they figure out. they don't necessarily go by the KBB value. So it sounds like it will likely fix, however, if its not to late, since it wasn't your fault you need to demand FACTORY FORD PARTS or at least a good used cab like the one that wvcat has, otherwise they will put some japanese or taiwan parts on it that are about as thick as a beer can and will dent if you lean up against it. I work at a body shop and I have seen it done a thousand times to people who don't know or care.
