Is that red handled Phillips screwdriver a MAC Tools? Looks to have AL scribed on the handle. Crazy because I scribed TAL on all my handles on my MAC set.

If it's a MAC... I'd like to trade you something for it... mine is bent.

My entire mechanic career i survived with two air impacts. A bad ass 1/2 and a 3/8. Since I moved with no compressor in the garage I've embraced the battery Tools whole heartedly. I bought my first one just before I moved.... M18 mid torque 1/2 inch (lower right). I love it and hate it at the same time. Great torque and small enough for almost everything... but has a detent pin and makes changing sockets a complete pain in the ass.

Anyway... I buy most my Milwaukee stuff from the local farm store. I got their credit card and they have member only nights and you get 15% off and double rewards. My family also gets me gift certificates from there for birthdays... father's day and other holidays. So I watch the sales and shop member only events and it brings the out of pocket cost down pretty good.

Now I have the 1/4 hex driver... love this one. I also wanted the M12 1/2 impact... goes with me on trips as part of my truck box. Then the latest is the big high torque 1/2 inch. It's hugh and i just got it. Haven't used it yet but spring is coming and I've got plans.

question about old plastic handled screwdrivers.
I have several that smell really weird as the plastic decomposes, morphs, combines with oil or whatever.
anybody else have the same issue?

Also got the M12 inflator... it works really well. I hope it lasts a long time.

A lot of that stuff had a peculiar smell right from the beginning. Seems like Xcellite screwdrivers and nut drivers had a certain smell. Some of those smells bring back memories like hanging out at my dad’s workbench in the basement while he was working on model trains and things.

If I remember right it's because the plastic contained butyrate. Butyric Acid is the VFA responsible for the characteristic smell of vomit. Over time it off-gases and will build up in toolboxes, pouches, etc. Our human schnozzes are sensitive to it, probably to prevent us from eating nasty stuff.

I have one of those big 1/2” Milwaukee m18s.
If it doesn’t break loose, it’ll just break.

Only thing it’s been stopped by is some stuff over 1” thread and the grade 8 bolts that get seized into the leaf spring bushings. The rubber just absorbs all the impact.
Also some lug nuts that were on a used car I bought, although I did break a couple 1/2” breaker bars getting them loose by hand, so honestly can’t blame it.

I think that is a great idea! I did similar with some spare chains, and a spare bar just because I don't know how durable either of those will be. Though the saw seems to work fine when I did some test cuts.

Today I received the cheapest carbide router bit set I found with Prime shipping, $13 for 1/4" through 3/4", only used the 5/8" bit for my current project but it worked out fine... My experience with routers is very limited but this showed me they are pretty nifty so I'll see how much use I find for them...

I also got the air line for the shop today, we'll see how excited I get about that, there's several things to do before I'm able to use the big compressor...

I tried to screenshot but didn't work. I bought 3 work tables from Princess Auto scratch and dent sale. 4' x 8' x 1" thick wood top. Regular $329.00. I paid $5.00 each. Good thing as lots of parts missing and all 3 wood tops had a crack in them. But I got one assembled. I would not recommend this table at full price. The other tops I'll cut in half length wise and make my RV counter top out of them. Any leftover will become shelves. The left over metal is always handy for something...

wipe all your hand tools down with light WD40 (presumably to prevent rust) but then the toolbox smells like WD40 instead of barf....
