New tools you've bought recently?

When I was way into it, I splurged on a Gransfors.

Its a camp hatchet, and very nice. You can feel the quality.

It is less than half the weight of the estwing hatchet, yet seems like twice the chopping power. It chops, cuts and even shaves. It was like $180 bucks ouch.

I've read about using antifreeze to swell the wood on loosen handles. Apparently it doesnt evaporate.

First I’ve heard of that one but it makes sense, at least in my head. Use what you got if you can’t get the right stuff.

I set it in a pan of linseed oil overnight, swelled up and no more wiggle.

Ok, the emails were tempting for the sidewalk sale at HFT, I convinced myself I needed one bad enough... I picked up one of their fairly new Surface Conditioning Tools... $120 with 3 wheels... variable speed, 9A, runs smooth but haven't tried it on a surface yet... when I was cleaning up my latest bench that I put in the shop this would have made a much nicer surface and probably went at least twice as fast...

Also picked up a pair of mig welding pliers, new ground clamp for my welder (the Titanium welders come with a fairly cheezy clamp, the $8 option is nicer... just have to drive the ring terminal down a chisel with a socket a bit to go from 6mm to 8mm or whatever...), oh and some safety glasses since I can never find them when I need them...

I bought a 14mm x 1.50 tap so I could put a fox body drain plug into a 62 T Bird oil pan with stripped threads. I may never use it again but the pan is made of unobtainium.

The HF mig welding pliers sucks...maybe they have improved since I bought mine a long time...but the cutter on mine couldnt cut crap. Also the grabber rings for tips and nozzles were wrong sizes, too big and too small.

But I still use them, because they are always there. Unlike my nice pair, can never find those

Why is it the crappy tools stick around?

Yea but they're never lost either...and don't usually break, except on the trail or side of the of the road.

There are a few nice tools I know are just missing..stashed deep
Oh and I had a nice M12 tire filler, but I was filling a tire when my mom drove off with it still attached...Thanks ma. At least I salvaged the battery.

That is kind of an oddball size lol, did you use tapmagic? it really helps.

Never heard of it, I use marvel Mystery oil as an air tool oil and for drill and tap cutting oil. I bought a quart can of it 30 years ago and probably won't live long enough to use it all up.

I have a big bottle of Tap Magic and a couple spray cans of Cool Cut. Stuff lasts forever and works way better than oil for drilling and tapping, IMHO

I keep a little jar with some Tap Magic and just dip my taps in and go

I order Tap Magic off McMaster Carr for the shop, got a couple of squeeze bottles that I fill out of the gallon jug.

It's great for Aluminum, better then motor oil or WD-40 for steel/ stainless. I think the Anchor Lube works better on the stainless.

Speaking of McMaster Carr, I need to get another order together for them…
