there was a guy who posted something like 586k miles and he lost the truck to a semi turning in front of him... otherwise still original powertrain - can't find the post... been a few newspaper articles here there about random place where guys had one.

Your location seems to be Stuart, FL, is that correct? I'm assuming FL vehicles don't succumb to rust quite as fast as other areas... that's the main thing to watch. '93 was around the time when frame rust started becoming a problem with our trucks, at least in my experience.

If you keep up on maintenance it should last a long time. Maintenance meaning, more than just changing the oil... but eventually it comes down to your budget and what you're willing to do yourself. Most people can't afford or don't want to spend thousands of dollars at a repair shop multiple times on an old truck. If you can do most repairs yourself, a lot of things are really cheap on these old trucks - rear brake job for example might cost you $100 for everything in parts if you shop around. That might be $500+ at a shop including labor. Water pump - $40 plus your time... guessing $300+ at a shop.

My vehicles don't really have a set lifespan - mileage means nothing to me. But I can do just about any repair short of major stuff that gets farmed out to a machine shop. They stay with me until they are rusted beyond usefulness or the opportunity to sell & make money or trade up comes along.
 
ibet you still have a long life with that truck. 300k is easy on a ranger if you do the oil changes and normal stuff
 
Welcome aboard. The other guys in this forum know a lot more about the pluses and minuses with any particular year truck, but in general, they’re pretty durable if you do the routine maintenance. And you can get hundreds of thousands of miles out of them if you do a little bit more.

I owned an engineering company with some partners in the 90s in 2000s. At any point in time we had 250 or 300 S-10s, Rangers and a bad experience with some Dodge Dakota’s. The Rangers were cheaper and easier to fix, and we got more miles out of them than we did out of the S-10s. We did testing on construction sites, and my guys were really hard on them.

My build threads are in my signature. My 97 had almost 300,000 miles on it when I bought it. It’s got about 320,000 miles now. The guy did religious maintenance on it, one owner, and I think the only major thing he did was redo the heads after 200,000 miles. It absolutely runs like a top, and the only thing I did was put in a heavier clutch, but that’s because of my custom stuff and the load.

Coincidentally my 87 clocked about 300,000 when I got it. It was black primer, pieces from different trucks and Broncos, etc., with a blown engine. One of the reasons I bought it is because I knew where there was a 2.9 that was rebuilt 40,000 miles before by somebody I knew and trusted, that had been wrecked. I was surprised when I swapped out the engine with a new clutch assembly, and I’ve had to do very little to it mechanically since then. I put a new radiator in it at the time, and I think the only other Mildly serious problem I’ve had is the pinion seal and the axle shaft seal. They’ve been leaking for a year, and I’ve got the parts, I just haven’t gotten around to it. I put in a shot glass or two of oil in the rear end every three -four months, and I would drive it anywhere.

And never underestimate the value of rust oleum, and a roller!

My previous 98 mazda b seri3s had 325k on it when i sold it because a single cab didnt work with two car seats and a wife. It ran like brand new and i drove it all over texas. I put 200k in it less then 3 years and it was perfect the whole time. Ac and five speed were perfect. The guy who got it from me had 500k in his 98 b series but the frame rusted in half so he bought mine as a replacement fishing truck
