As of late August I am the proud owner of a 1998 Ford Ranger XLT 2WD long bed with a 4.0 in bright red.

1998 is the year I always wanted. The only year with the bumper covers, the painted door and tailgate handles, and the 1 year only pinstripe. I had to trek to Pella, Iowa for it but it has only 30,000 miles on it.

Hey, Welcome! Nice truck, I had almost the same one, red with the nice blue pin strip but with the manual 4-cyl. Was great around town but it had the crappy 3.45 rear gear that had trouble out on the interstate in a good head wind. Traded it in on a 2000 ext cab with 4.0.
I was just out to Waterloo IA six weeks ago to pick up a 2001 Edge with 26,000 on it. You did better in your find, hope you really enjoy it.
