New tattoo idea, input wanted

So for the past year or so I've been tossing around the idea of getting a half-sleeve of an Eagle and an American flag on my left arm.


My dilema has always been how I wanted them orriented...

But anyway, winter is around the corner and it's time to get the ball rolling on my next tattoo, so I want your input.


So I almost definitely want it to be the old 13 star flag, vs the 50 star flag. As kind of my way of saying that I'm more proud of my country's past than it's present. Please inform me if that flag means anything other than that and I'm unaware of it.


Other than that....I'm really open to any suggestions. I want it to go from the top of my shoulder down to my elbow.



I couple of ideas I had....



Have the eagle with the flag draped over him, kind of like a winning athlete at the olympics.



Maybe have an eagle with outspread wings and the inside of his wings have the flag.


of course we could just go with a flag in the background and an eagle in front....but it'd have to be a really badass styled flag and eagle to keep from being boring.





Sometime next month I'm going to take all the ideas to my artist and have him draw it up for me, I think the last piece he did for me turned out awesome and this will probably be in a similar style.

Anyway, I know of no alternate meanings for the original colonial flag. As far as I know Old Glory means the same thing it did 240 years ago, the only difference being on the one you want there are only 13 stars for the then 13 states. Today we have 50 for 50. As far as the arrangement of the stars, it's just done to take up as much of the blue field as possible in a way that is pleasing to the eye.
