Greetings!

I am so happy that I found a community of people who are just as excited and passionate about the Ford Ranger as I am. I get a lot of crap from friends and family about my old truck but she has taken me to places I can't even begin to explain across the Rocky Mountains and Desert Southwest in the US.

I inherited my uncles 1992 Ford Ranger XLT in 2010 after his untimely death (RIP). Since then I have kept this old truck running and taking me to the places we both want to go.

Just as an introduction - I was an automotive technician for 7-1/2 years before deciding to make a career switch to journalism with the dream of building out one of those fantastic camper shell setups I see all over the internet. That would allow me to live out my dream of being a traveling documentarian and photo journalist, staying in my truck and traveling for a living as a writer and documentary producer (wish me luck, graduate school is really kicking my ass)

As of right now I am working on replacing the rear suspension and engine back exhaust. I have rebuilt the Dana 35 and Ford 8.8 with all the things. I rebuilt the transfer case (BW1350), and replaced all he joints in the drivetrain and front suspension along with all the bushings and steering linkage. All the electrical has been updated as needed with a few performance upgrades to various wiring harnesses (electrical diagnostics and computer systems were my area of focus as a mechanic). At this point I am probably going to start seeking advice on valve train adjustment or replacement (I have the tapping from worn out rocker arms...) and any advice or experience on rebuilding the m5r1 would be appreciated.

That is all I got - excited to be here!

Cheers,

Yikes. Based on your intro, I'd guess you're well qualified to be more than a lurker/member. More likely a valued contributor.
You're way ahead of me -- not that that's something to hang your hat on.

Nevertheless, welcome to TRS. Looking forward to your posts and your continued journey(s).

There was a time in life I woulda jumped at the chance to do something like that. Now days... not so much... at least not calling home the back of my Ranger. I might be able to do it for extended periods with a Jayco Hummingbird camper... or similar.

Good for you too for showing your uncles truck some love to keep on enjoying it. I'm sure he's proud. We really like pictures... so post up a couple pics of the 92.

With a tick question... I'll guess 2.9L. But 4.0L can make a little racket too. Best place to start would be verify oil pressure... then pull the valve covers... rocker shafts and push rods. Keep it all in order and give it a good inspection. Even pull the shaft apart and check shafts and rocker bores for wear.

Welcome to TRS...
