New JOB!!!

thats very true my aunts shop has gotten several ppl who had their trucks at the stealership and because of the price they wanted to fix the truck with they came to a local shop for a cheaper price. and you cant really blame them for that but as you yourslef can see it hurts the stealerships guys like you and that sucks. but on the bright side you got a better job from what it sounds like and good luck to you on that

While I accept that the dealer shop has much higher rates, they also have much higher quality, much better training, and much higher overhead.

Guys like you calling us the "stealership" is not helpful! I'm a dealer tech too, Ford trained. I went to college and have a full degree in automotive service and technology. I paid a lot more for my training that joe blow down at your aunt's shop who got all his training at Vo-tech and then went and took his ASEs.

I'm not a thief. I don't recommend any parts or repairs that I don't genuinely believe the customer's vehicle doesn't need to perform at its best, last its longest, and be as safe as possible.

I resent the implication that I am which is made by my chosen location of employment being called the "stealership".

man dealerships are the problem remember the average person can not afford dealership prices.

And the average flat rater can't afford his mortgage. Its a broken system all around.

I know guys that go in, work 10 hours a day, drop 15+ hours and are still living paycheck to paycheck, in houses that are barely able to hold their family and driving vehicles that are over 2o years old.

It doesn't work for anyone. Its still the cost of doing business.

adsm08, i mean no disrespect but all i can say to you man is go back to school and take a new path, it's never too late. I also say ask yourself how much money the dealership makes that goes to pay salesmen, hourly guys, and lets not forget the "managers and or owners" , and i think you can see where all the money goes , you have the power get all your guys together and walk out, if your services are really that unique and irreplaceable they should offer whatever you want man, but i will bet they may offer your old job to joe blow the other ASE certified mechanic in town. like i said no disrespect just pointing out the obvious.

Tell me about it.

I am still in school. I'm finishing a Business and Technology Management Bachelor's on top of my automotive degree.

As I said before, its a broken system and in the end nobody wins. My ultimate goal is to open my own shop some day and be setup to actually help people who can't pay their bills.

I have a friend who has a deal like this. He owns his own shop (Weed Family Auto in Concord, NH) and lets people pay at little at a time.

WELL everyone. I'm two week down at the new job and so far its been warm and cold, then it snowed, then it got real cold, and now its been cold and rainy for the last two days. Standing in a cold steady rain when its cold enough to see your breath for 45 minutes removing coil springs from a truck that is sitting on the ground (well really in the mud) is not that fun. The entire yard is covered in flooded ruts and streams. Inches of goopy mud everywhere.....perfectly fine for wheeling, not so much for removing springs with a crew cab truck sitting on a scissor jack because thats all you can get to it. But its all part of the new thing i suppose, guess ill get used to being cold, soaking wet, and sick eventually.

there are dealers whos service departments DOOO give a black mark for the rest of the service departments. for instance i was walking to my mail box when i heard my neighbor 2005 duratec taurus making a noise like the fan was hitting something. i gave her the cut motion and had her pop the hood. one of her accessories had all of the bolts loose, from the service she just had the dealer charge her 2-3 grand for which was a locked up ac compressor (i know this engine needs to be pulled or the subframe removed) any how i tightened the bolts up and had her take it back to the dealer with me to get the rest of the techs work inspected.
