hello, i joined late last night, and wanted to hit the sack before i wrote this.

i am getting an 87 Ranger STX 2wd 2.9 5spd on monday. all it needs is a fuel pressure regulator. will it run without one? i want to make shure it runs on monday.

I hope it is a nice truck. i am the only ford guy in my family and i realy want to show them that this is not a waste of money.

what does the STX trim on a 2wd entail? i have read about 4x4 STX's of that year on this wonderful site, but not 2wd. what is special about them?

Welcome! Your 2wd stx package really only consisted of a 2.9, sway bars front and rear, and a posi locking rear end, as well as possible leather wrapped steering wheel, and bucket seats typically with power lumbar, and the stx badging.

cool, thanks! i know it does have a bench seat, witch sucks..

will it run without a fuel pressure regulator?

It should have a fuel pressure regulator. It's probably just bad so it'll run but it'll run rough and rich. If you've got one, take a fuel pressure tester and hook it to the shrader valve. Key on, engine off should be 35-40 psi and running should be 35 psi.

If there isn't a regulator, which would be odd, then no you cannot run it.

You can get new ones through rockauto.com for pretty cheap.

it does have one, it is just bad.
