Hi gang, I have a 1987 ranger ext cab 4x4 with duel fuel tanks and am looking for a replacement rear tank. Does anyone know where I can find an OEM replacement or suitable substitute? The rear tank was missing when i bought the truck and the front tank has already been upgraded to the 17 gallon. Any help would be a heaven sent. Thanks in advance.

I'll let others chime in, but the rear tanks are quite hard to find in OEM format. you might need to have a custom tank made. Also not sure of how available the fuel pump and other electrical connections and support to make it operational, hopefully you have all the wiring and in cab stuff. My guess is the previous owner upgraded to the `17 gallon tankj because the rear failed and he couldn't source it.

I've read of people using the Bronco 2 tank. Apparently hangs down several inches lower so you may want to fabricate a skid plate.

Why bother? If you're really an old guy you know you'll have to stop to pee before you can use up 17 gallons anyway.

Depending on your expectations,
places to pee
can be more common to see
than fuel stations.

Both the BII and Big Bronco tanks can be used in the rear of Rangers;
• the BII will require BII hangers but is NEARLY a bolt-in, the skid plate is a nice option; it will affect both the suspension and ground clearance a little. With 23 gallons the front tank is arguably unneeded. A new BII tank goes for about $150 delivered.
• the Big Bronco is 32 gallons, is a very tight fit, will require a more parts/fabrication and more adversely affect the suspension/ground clearance but with it you could toss the fron tank completely.

In regards to sourcing an original Ranger 13 gallon rear, I would check with all the normal places:
• Rockauto.com
• iCar.com
• Broncograveyard.com
There are many more parts sources to check with.
