Hey guys I bought a 93 ranger super cab 3.0 4x4 5spd with 32x11.50 15s on it last week. I need help. I test drove the thing on flat ground. It was a 6 mile test. It ran fine, no odd noises, no smoke. Well I live on the side of a big hill. So Im bringing it home, and I notice that its ALOT slower than my car. (91 MR2 turbo) but its a truck. BUT i start to go up this hill, and I have to go all the way down to 3rd. I cant use 5th gear below 60 mph, and It wont reverse out of my driveway. I drove it to work and it used 3/8 tank of gas. its 24.4 miles one way and i got a 15 gal tank. Is it the tires or is it about to die?? Help?:dunno:

With those tires you can forget all about 5th gear. Pretend its not even there.lol I have an 89 ranger with the 2.3lt and running 31x10.5/15 and I almost forgot 5th was there. As for your reversing problem hard to say. Does is feel like the drivetrain is binding? A better description is needed.

The 3.0 is an RPM engine. It likes to be wound out. It is happy above 3000 rpms.
A Ranger is Much heavier, much less aerodynamic than your car. It will never come close to as good of gas mileage. You'll need to slip the clutch a bit to get it moving, just not too much. It will take a little getting used to.

It doesnt feel like its binding at all. It is very smooth, just no power. As far as winding out goes, are you sure that wont hurt it? the thing redlines at 5k. I shift at about 24,25. And as I said, I only get between 6 and 8 or 9 mpg.
