My clutch master cylinder broke on me today. I finally tracked down the only place in town that had one, put it in and attempted to bleed the line. When I first started to bleed it the first couple pumps blew out air and fluid. Then after that I got nothing from the line, air or fluid. After scratching my head for a few minutes I tried again. This time I got a few pumps that shot out fluid only, no air. Then again nothing. All the while never once gaining any pressure to the pedal. Is there a way a can test my cylinder to make sure its not faulty or can I just assume that it is.

Btw this is an 85 ranger 2.3l with the Toyo koygo trans <( I probably just butchered that)

bled

open the valve on the slave with a hose on the nipple put it in a jar with the end of if submerged in fluid , then fill the master and let gravity do its thing once it looks like onely fliud is coming out closed the valve then do a couple of pump bleeds with every thing still in place, I always bleed my masters before installing them 85 should not have a check drain valve like later ones

Thank you for your response.

I won't be able to do the hose and bottle technique cuz I don't have the supplies for it and am unable to go get them.

What is a check drain valve?

What is a check drain valve?

The 88+ lines had a quick-connect fitting with a check valve in it right at the slave so that when you disconnect it the fluid doesn't come running out.

Oh, okay. I remember taking that off on my 01 when I changed the clutch.

I gave up on it for tonight so I'm out of a car for a few days.

I might try to take all of the guts out of both masters and swap the old one into the new housing that isn't snapped tomorrow. I'm pretty sure the new one is just faulty. Or I might just try to make a little metal plate to hold the old one together so I can return the new one.
