so for my 22nd birthday my dad got me this
wrench opener

He also got me a Snap On 3/8 torque wrench. I will probably need to pick up a 1/2 in for the bigger stuff. Never hurts to have 2

I never use 3/8 inch torque wrenches anymore.

Always 1/2 inch for big stuff and 1/4 inch (beam type only) for the small stuff.

I'd use a 3/4 inch on suspension and steering if I could afford it. Those get expensive.

Thats what I am afraid of with the 3/8'' because it only goes to 100 ft lbs. I cant even tourqe my hubs all the way and everything if I need to pull my calipers. However when I was doing my fuel rail, that was to be tourqued to in/lbs. I do not do any suspension and probably never will so a 3/4" is out of the question. I may swap this one for a 1/2" and look at getting a small 1/4". I never really thought of using a 1/4". Is there any reason you recommend the beam type for the small 1/4"?

Most of the time when I need a 1/4 inch, it's to measure rotating resistance or preload. The beam type is a whole lot easier to deal with for that.

Either type will work for torquing bolts.

whats better, the click or beam type? I think I like the beam better. You can see the progress as you go.

I really like my electronic Snap-On torque wrench. It goes down to 10 ft/lbs and vibrates and beeps when you reach your setting.

Both seem to the job just as good as the other. Personally, I like the click type. Set it and then listen for the click. The beam type indicator seams to vibrate a lot when under moderate torque (100ft-lbs), but then again, its a Craftsman tool thats older than me.

i prefer the clicks, its more accurate when you are torquing your main caps, heads..whatever you are working with...
