New 2007-2011 Ford Ranger Airbag Recall

The only time my truck sees the dealer is for recalls of this nature. Looks like its time to go again. Then I can walk around the showroom floor and laugh at the sticker prices on new trucks.

Whenever I have to go to the dealer I like to walk onto the lot, spot the most depressed looking salesman and then while he's in earshot proclaim "todays the day im buying that new mustang!". Then when he runs over glimmering with hope and joy, I wander off...

That's a little harsh Dirtman. Some of these guys are just trying to earn a living. If you are going to do it, at least do it to the salesman who seems like a total jerk / idiot.

Show me a car salesman who works on commission who is not a jerk, and I'll show you an unemployed car salesman...

Their job is LITERALLY to see how much they can scam people.

But what if they throw in a free goat on that offer?

How do those 120 monthly lease payments look now?

Hmm I'll bet that is how he got the lawyer goat in the first place...

I'll have you know law goat was raised entirely by me from birth, bottle fed and all. Twas my influence alone that led her to become such a great lawyer.

Yes Sargent, good call. These "side curtains" were retrofitted at the end of the model run (2010-11) after a near 20 year run of the same truck. Know little about how they are activated, other than there would be additional sensors in the side ?(where ?).

I get a sporadic airbag light in my 2010 that may to be related to the passenger side seat weight sensor/seat belt clasp. I work at a large city facility that services all Ford vehicles. Rarely do we send things out to the dealer for repair out of warranty. Even air bag related as our technicians are Ford certified, they perform the recall campaigns. The '10-11 Ranger have been exceptions and the airbag warning issues can't even be corrected long term by the dealer. Never had a safety incident, but they befuddle good technicians often. We don't have many pre '11 Rangers left in the fleet now due to age. Seeing a few new gen Rangers now, but we mostly employ F series.

Also of note, the nasty frame rust/rot we all hear of and/or have experienced have never been a major issue according to our staff. Do fleet buyers get a better product ? Probably have a little more clout at least when you purchase thousands at a time...

Got mine in the mail today. :icon_rofl:

Dunno if they have parts, I'll call the dealer tomorrow and find out what the deal is. My interior is already torn apart so be nice to get it done before I put all the new painted stuff back in.

I got mine either Thursday or Friday last week. I stopped by the dealership so they can order the part to get it done. I asked when they knew when they were going to do the ones in the seats since they changed everything else. No idea and one Service Rep didn't even know the 2011s came with curtain air bags.

I have to call the dealer too. Just haven't had the time.

I got the first letter in recently. Should I bother having it “fixed” or just keep tithe original, because it’s probably fine? (07 Ranger from Twin Cities plant)

It's free why wouldn't you do it? :dunno:

Sure it's a very minimal chance anything will ever happen but again... it's free...

It doesn’t cost you anything and takes about 30 minutes for them to complete the work.

Why take the chance of getting shrapnel in your face? Especially since it doesn’t cost you anything but a little time.

Yep when they did my passengers side I made an appointment and they said I could drop it off or just wait. I decided to just wait, it was less than 45 minutes. All the do is pop the cover off and swap out the igniter gizmo they don't replace the whole airbag. It did take them like 6 months to get the parts in stock last time though. We'll see how long it takes this time.
