never let idiots work on your truck...

yes you mentioned you set hoists everyday. so do many of the other members on here (yep, your not the only one on a truck-wrenching website that works in a shop :icon_surprised:).

im famillier with the extentions your talking about. i usually found them too tall for the ranger, thus making it front heavy...but i suppose different lift manufacturers have different length extentions.

i think i said in above post that the extensions were to tall for rangers.

no big deal.

yup,the ranger and most ford trucks are fun to lift.i usually put a stand on the rear bumper ,when i lift fords.just to steady it ,and keep it from rocking.there was a car that fell off a hoist, unfortunately, the mechanic didn't get out from under it.that happened at on of the car dealers here in the city i live in ,about two months ago.i try to be as safe as possible when i lift vehicles on two post hoists.i always double check the lift points ,and get it off the floor about 6 inches and shake the vehicle,i would rather i fall 6 inches than on me.
i did have a 4 runner fall off the hoist,as it was coming down, the legs have rubber pads ,and the 4 runner was recently under coated with the slippery under coat.it tires were almost touching and the pads slipped on the frame, luckily it only bent the running boards.

wow, major discussion from me posting a funny picture

hoist safety is NOTHING to joke about!

im not joking, im just saying, looking back, its funny now, i mean c'mon, my truck is known as the wheelie truck in both shops, and yes, i too set up lifts everyday, we have 4 lifts and 2 allignment racks and i set cars up safley every day (im the guy people ask to check things before they do them)

btw, where did you learn the term hoist?, thats always been an engine hoist to me, and car lifts have always been lifts, just never herd that

Rangers are THE hardest thing to put up on my lift, especially TTB Rangers.
Even though it looks scary, it is NOT going to fall off. As long as it is on solid points.
I ALWAYS lift the vehicle to the point the tires are off the ground and then give it a really good bounce, If it falls off there it isn't going to hurt anything. I have never had one come off.
If you think yours is hard to put up you should try the Black Frog! No spring hangers!! Putting it on the lift Sucks!

i bet, the unibodys scare me. i seen a lift/hoist go thtough the floor of a plymouth horizin and just about spill my beer once..:icon_confused:

who said unibodies?

unibody cars are a sinch to lift. you dont even need to get on one knee to position the pads on the pinch weld :icon_thumby:

true but when the pinch weld crunches and then the rocker bends up you have problems..

Around here you have to be VERY careful using pinch welds! It is the first place to rust out here.

well the kids that set my truck up origonally tried to set it on the pinch weld(its imaginary)

i think i owe the curse jar about a month and a half's pay for that one

I have caved floor boards on old K cars. I crushed a rocker panel on a "DARE" car (GM f-body).
