Anyone know how hard it is to replace the neutral safety switch on a 94 ranger auto? I hear the switch is on the upper right side of the trans, but will I have to drop the trans to get at it. Thanks!

I don't believe the auto ativ transmissions where equiped with an external neutral safety switch; I think it was all done via gear position and the PCM.

Thanks for the response, but everything I've read sez there is a neutral safety switch on my auto trans. Odd. By the way what's a PCM?

There is a neutral/park switch on almost every automatic transmission. There HAS to be.

Mjones doesn't seem to realize that this is how the powertrain control module (PCM) knows the gear....

I said I didn't think. I know there isn't one external.

look right above the shifter linkage screwed into the case. It is more than just a neutral safety switch, it also powers the reverse lights, and is sometimes called a PRNDL swtich.
