Nephew wants to get into drag racing....

I have to drool every time I see this:

I've so wanted to do a fox body to do something like it and name it "Black Sunshine" like the old White Zombie song...

skip the manual tranny

Hes 20 years old and is an awesome driver.
4 sp of course, or 5, whatever is stock in the fox's of that vintage.

later,
Dustin

I see automatic trans in all the serious race cars when I'm there. The trans brake and launch button on the dash will beat a foot clutch everytime.
Miss a shift with a manual and your outa the race.

Even the bikes are using revloc clutches and button air shifters.

Really, bring anything and bracket race it. I've been saying this for years about people with 4x4s. This hoby is fun or it isnt. If you need $10,000 in parts to think its fun, it isn't fun. Its the parts. I can go out in a stock truck and have a blast. Your nephew can't afford to go fast, but he can afford to have fun.

+1

but If i had the budget. I would go Fox body with a 396 stroker and a 2spd powerglide.

That was sweet... bottom line.

And I agree with Will. It's all about the fun, just like guys on here with off-roading. No, my car really isn't that fast (a slow mid 15 with a clogged cat... sad, I know...) but I still have a blast when I take it to Oceola Drag Strip on Test and Tune nights.

I dont know anything about forced induction really, but he had an interesting idea....

A buddys dad of his has a 98 Crown Vic for sale....

I know there porky heavy monsters, but what would one do with a Supercharger and a set of 3.55's?

How much does a S/C cost for one?

later,
Dustin

I'm a Camaro guy, but a Fox body would be a great starter(cheap, light, plentiful and fast) those 5.0's can make big power for hardly any cash

if you are building the car for the track you want 4.10s. if you want a bracket racer then leave it stock with a set of drag radials.

it would be a fire breathing porky monster with a S/C ..... but that is some bucks.

Just sitting here watching the Texas race and I remembered that I had this picuture squirreled away. Talk about history and where he has come from there! Just another option along with the Pinto

Well there's two types of crown vics: The police spec, which is a great foundation to start with; and the granny spec, which has horrifically unconfortable seats, single 2" exhaust (on a V8???!!!), tuned down engine, and lowered, slopped up suspension. I'd definatly start with a police interceptor.

I've seen 'em with a 150 shot of nitrous in an otherwise stock police interceptor lay down 13 seconds flat.

To really supercharge it, he'd need to pull the engine and rebuild it with forged pistons. The actual charger shouldn't be too bad, anything made for a stang should work with a little modification. Just use the CV's fuel injection system and have it dyno tuned once he gets the charger installed. Also I'd definately look into performing the "J-mod" on the tranny if it's not a police spec car. Basically you enlarge some fluid passages in the valve body to make it shift like a ton a bricks. I've heard performing this mod on a granny spec crown vic (er, *grand marquis*) is good for a 1/2 second in the 1/4 mile.

I've always wanted to build one of the 03-04 Crown Vic LX sport models with a twin turbo 4.6L and a 6 speed out of a mustang. My dream street/cruising car!! :headbang:

And there's 3 ways to make power: displacement, forced induction, and nitrous. None are cheap and easy.

the wife is wanting a four door that is quick. so I'm trying to talk her into a police spec vic, and then drop a 5.4l in it. I figuerd that painted black, limo tint all around and 18'' low profile wheel and tires. would look sweet and hot. but she states that it would look like a granny mobile. so there is a idea for your vicey.

I don't understand the granny image thing. To me, I think of one thing when I see those cars: High Performance. That's it.

FWIW, the 5.4 won't fit without cutting a hole in the hood.

I should be able to use the intake of the mustang with spacers between the inatake and the heads, just like when you swap the 5.4 in the stang.
