Needing advice

I have a 95 with a manual trans 3.0 4x4 my question is should I just pull my trans and transfer case together or separate to do a rearain seal

to me, its easier to pull them together. i just undo the trans from the engine and lower with a jack.

some people like to pull the whole engine, trans, t-case and separate on the ground.

I like to separate the transfer case from the transmission because the center of gravity is offset on the t-case, making awkward. They are lighter and easier to handle separated.

But I don't have a transmission jack. So, that makes things more difficult for me.

Even with a transmission jack. I would separate them. The only reason I successfully dropped and reinstalled mine as a unit was shear stubborness.

If I had to do it again, the transfer case and transmission would get separated.

I’ve done it about every way there is. The nicest is to drop the transfer case and yank the engine and transmission out the front. But there’s not enough room for it to come nicely out the front without removing the front clip and core support. It can all come out through the hood with just pulling the radiator and tilting the whole mess almost on end but it’s a bit of a mess. Technically the transfer case will fit out too either way but it makes things harder because it wants to catch on things.

I’ve dropped trans and T-case together under the vehicle with and without a transmission jack. I wouldn’t recommend it, the transfer case makes it awkward because it won’t balance right. I’ve split them under the vehicle and taken them out with and without a transmission jack. Much easier and a transmission jack really makes it simple. Engine comes out easily if you pull the radiator and hood, it is possible to leave the clutch fan on, but you have a little more room with it off. I’ve done it both ways, but now that I have a good clutch fan tool, it comes off. One less thing to be mindful of that way.
