Need your guys opinions

Im looking at a 2000 ranger 4.0 auto that has 157k miles on it. Im not really worried about the motor cause I had a 4.0 that had 230k on it but I am worried about the tranny. The guy is asking 4000 for it and its full loaded. What do you guys think i should do? If the tranny shifts good would you say go for it? Need your guys opinions. Thanks

I would think that a 2000 with that mileage already has had a tranny (or two) put in it. I would ask about it. If it's original I would low-ball the guy and see what he says.

By then the automatic transmissions were not all that bad if taken care of, I wouldn't be afraid of it just because of the milage in the slightest. Heck, my parents have 170k on the original A4LD in their '94 Explorer, which is a much weaker transmission.
