Need some help with a new vehicle for a friend...

I second the Kia Sportage. Looking for a car for my mother, we found that one. She has relatively short legs, but this was easy enough for her to get into and out of. Plus they are taking 5k right off the sticker price right now to clear out for the new body style. Well equipped 23K

Sportages are pretty roomy now days too. My fathers friend traded in his fullsize dodge for one and he doesn't complain that much about the room. He's 6'1 and probably close to 350 pounds.

She wants to go look at Toyota. Seriously.

RAV-4 AWD. Roomy, still good on gas, and big enough to make her feel safe. NOT big enough to make her feel awkward out on the road or in a parking lot.

I'm actually considering one myself.

I just rode in a Ford Edge and it has plenty of room and rode nice.

That's more what I was thinking. Especially the Liberty because of the P/T 4WD.

liberty 3.7 are crap on gas and they wont stay aligned for anything, but there is also the option of CRD...diesel and 4wd...get her anywhere

Honda Element. No need to post any more choices:D

Derek

x10 Th element is a bit gaudy on the outside and will prolly make her puke but inside its comfy and rides and drives great and the interior is awesome for pets. Either that or a CRV. But I recomend the element too. She can buy a certified used one and it will come with a 10yr/100k miles powertrain warranty just like the hyundais. I used to sell tehm so I can vouch for this stuff.

Rav-4's are known for rollovers. I had a lady traded one for the element because a car pullled out in front of her, she swerved left then back right due to traffic and over it went.

First thing I thought as well before reading the other posts was Subaru. Escape is another good choice, could even go with a Mercury Mariner and get a clearance deal.

5-door Mazda3, CRV, Element (saw something about a optional dog package), RAV4, previous generation Mazda6 wagon, Kia Soul, Jetta wagon (there's a diesel option), Dodge Journey, A Hyndai SUV, Jeep Patriot,

dont know about yal, but my family has a few dogs, and i hates ridding in the same enclosed space with them...especially since one has "emission issues"

sorry for double post, but i just thought of a car that'll be awsome and fits most those needs. AN AMC EAGLE! they aint too too rare around were i live, there 2 of them i see as daily drivers in my town, ones missing a fender tho

Keep her away from Zubadus. The boxer engines aren't great, they leak and break right around 100k, every time.

I'd say keep an eye out for a TDI Jetta wagon. They run forever, have a lot of space, and get great mileage. They tend to run a bit on the pricey side, but they also hold their value very well (3 years ago I booked one that was 5 years old and had 100K and it still came in over 10 grand).

You may all now begin flaming me for suggesting the VW.

If they flame you, I'll grab the fire extingusher and back you up. a VW diesel wagon sounds like a good idea.

No flames here, that's actually a really good car. And not that she would care, but it's incredibly tuneable. Table-flat awesome torque numbers from about 1900 RPM to redline, and gobs of go.

i've been a 9 time Subaru owner. never had the 100k issue, ever. the only reason i switched to the Kia was because Subaru started making all the routine maintenance parts Subaru specific. special mounting for wiper blades, can only use their oil filter without voiding the warranty, etc. i don't play those games. otherwise, never drove a Subaru that wasn't excellent on slick roads and they all gave very good performance overall.
