Need some help solving problems with swap

If you've got power at pin 42, then you may have fried the ECU, that's a ground circuit. The yellow/light blue wire that is in the 12 pin connector under the abs pump (part of the alternator harness) is your starter wire, that needs to be connected to the yellow/light blue in the 42 pin connector. What wires have you swapped and what exactly have you done?

SVT

I don't have any wires swapped and the yellow/light blue from under abs runs to my starter

Verify all wires correspond to their matching color on each side of the connector. The 12 pin plug under the abs pump (C149) contains the starter wire, ac high pressure switch, water temp and oil pressure circuits. The ac high pressure switch circuit on the explorer is wired differently through plug C115, and the remaining circuits are in different pin locations. For detailed info, refer to my ranger build thread, first post. I go into detail what needs to be done in regards to wiring. Your truck is. 98, mine is a 96, but the wiring for those two plugs should be the same...

I'm seeing pin 42 on the '97'Explorer being a ground but on the '98-00' it being the alternator output, yellow/white. Got to love wiring!
Dave

Dave, I agree. He is showing power, which on the vehicle side is alternator power, on the ECU side its ground. First, unbolt the ecu, if you haven't fried it already, to protect it. Go back and again, verify ALL wires on BOTH sides of all connectors are matching color wires. Refer to the link Dave posted in post 4, double check all wires, and if you have any questions from that point, we will cover them then. You also now need to check the alternator fuselink (or fuse) for continuity, as well as check all fuses as there is a chance one or more is blown. What did you do for the alternator harness, did you use the ranger, or the explorer? How did you wire the ac high pressure switch?

SVT

Ranger harness but swapped the battery power and ground cables for extra length no other changes were made to anytging

Checked wire colors at 42 pin for both sides all look to match up besides the ones not needed coming from the explorer side

Pin 42 will have to be removed on the vehicle side, and that pin will need to be grounded.

SVT

Yes, but its not the vehicle side that's important. If you try to put power to the ECU where its supposed to be ground, there's a good chance it will get fried. It's very important that the wires and the circuits match up for that reason. Both the 42 pin (C115) and the oval 12 pin (C149) under the abs pump (the alternator harness) need to be checked and verified.

I have all the evtms for the explorer motor ecu and 42 but don't have them for my ranger 42 or the connector under abs pump

I don't have the 98 ranger, I have the 96-97. It should be the same. I believe Dave posted the 98 ranger up on post #4...

SVT

Well I think there's either no power to the ecu somehow or a ground or something

Check these pins in the 42 pin plug for power and ground...
Pins 1&9 are switched power
Pin 8 is constant power
Pins 13, 34, & 42 are ground

If you have a pin or pins that do not have power, check all your fuses. If you have a pin that does not have ground (in the case of pin #42), check the wires and circuits, and lake the appropriate changes...
