Need some help on mileage

What kinda mileage can the following trucks get? Id like to here from people with experience as I am looking for a vehicle for school and commuting and still hauling and playin a bit. I would really like to get an extended cab but its impossible to find the 4cyl in one and I think the added weight would affect it and make it even more gutless. All trucks would be 2wd.

4.0L extended cab
3.0L extended cab
4.0L single
3.0L single
4 cyl single

Just give me some numbers on each one, trying to narrow down my choices, power isn't an all out must but it would be nice to have something a little gutsy, just got rid of my old 87 w/ 2.9 so nothing older than 93.

why not just go by EPA ratings? thats what they are there for. your going to get such a diverse response from this crowd (due to the high variation of mods to the vehicles and of driving styles) that the information is likely to be near useless. the EPA estimates reduce variables like driver, climate, and vehicle condition factors...giving you a solid base for comparison.

we'll use a '93, 5-speed 2wd trim:

'93 2.3L 2wd standard cab: 23/28
'93 3.0L 2wd standard cab: 19/25
'93 4.0L 2wd standard cab: 18/24

(these are the original window sticker fuel eco. estimates....from what ive seen, they are a little more accurate than the EPA's "new" system...not sure why they ever changed).

some people get higher and some people get lower than EPA estimates, but the "average" is about right.

I average about 26 with my 2.5, going back and forth to work with about 2/3 freeway. And it can pull pretty decent.

Yea i found a really nice 2.5 ext cab 5 spd 1999, super nice truck but it was out of my price range.

the EPA's site doesnt have extended cabs for some reason. highway mileage between standard and ext. cabs is surprisingly similar. its the city mileage that takes the bigger hit from hauling around an extra 300lbs of cab.

just kock one or 2 points off the city mileage and youve got ext. cab mileage (more or less).

Alright guys thanks a lot. I found two 3.0L single cab rangers so Im gonna give them a call. Seems like a good combo, enough power yet not a gas guzzler, gonna turn it into a prerunner probably when Im done school too.
