need inprovement 96 2.3l

your stock gauge doesnt have numbers on it, so the little information it gives you isnt very useful. if you have a 205 degree t-stat in the truck, thats what temp your running, regardless of where your guage sits.

i know this... but it would be better for the engine to run a little hotter, especially this time of year when i can't even stop at a stop sign w/o my heater blowing cold...i need to keep the rpms above 2500 just to get lukewarm air

You might try backflushing your heater core, might be something obstructing the flow there, or else see if your water pump is still good (the fins might be eaten away). I have a stock Thermostat in my 2.3 and my needle just gets into the Normal range but I have plenty of hot air, even at a stop.

you have a cooling system problem. a weak water pump, or perhaps a clogged heater core. maybe even just low coolant.

your truck should have no problem maintaining its tempurature, especially with how "warm" washington winters are. i ran a 180 t-stat the whole time i was in alaska and still had plenty of 180 degree heat coming out of my vents on -10 degree days.

that's funny tho because my a/c has always been cold, cold enough to where i would shut it off and the water pump was replaced just a few months ago.

the A/C is a completely different system, there is something wrong with your cooling system(not air conditioning system) you are not getting enough flow at idle. i have seen this alot around this time of year heater cores get clogged and your heat drops off at idle pull the lines off and flush it with a hose . . . . . my heat is so hot at idle i need to shut it off and turn it to cold
but it deff has nothing to do with your a/c at all( unless your driving around with it on in the winter

improvments to ranger

you need to start out with a good solid engine not a used one, mine has over 200,000 miles on it but i car still roast the tires because i started with a good solid 2.3l and have keep up the maintance you will be dollars ahead that way other wise you are building on shifting sand and by the way you are in high school you need to pay more attention to your spelling it looks more professional and you will get further in life take it from me i was told i was retarded when i was a child turns out i was autistic i had to work harder in school than most anyone else and i graduated from collage so its possible.:yahoo:
