hey everyone, the other day i was changing my fuel filter, and for some stupid reason i also pulled out my external fuel pump. got everything back in, and drove it a mile or so to make sure everything is workinn right. this morning, started my truck, let it warm up for a couple minutes, and wen i went over to it, smoke was coming from my external fuel pump area. now, my pump wont turn on. my dilemma, is not knowing if my pump burnt out (that possible?) or if a wire on the harness side accidentally grounded and burned its self out..
i know its not much to work with, and very hard to figure out over the internet, but before i pay like 150 bucks for a new pump, can anyone help me??
and i know whether or not the pump is turning on cuz i can hear it wen i turn the key...
thanks in advance for any help..

Hard to tell why that happened, best bet would be to get in there, take some stuff apart and look to see what in the hell is going on. Poke around with a DMM, look for shorts to make sure that's not the problem. Look for melted wiring and etc. FWIW, Don't run the pump dry because the fuel that's being pumped is what keeps them cool.

thanks pete, i feel like it was too much smoke to be a blown fuse... i dont even know why the fuse would go anyway... just for the record, the fuel pump fuse is on the passenger fender by the airbox? theres like 6 little covered "boxes" and i dunno wich one would contain the fuel pump fuse.
could anyone help me determine which one it is?
thanks everyone!
