I'm finishing up a steering column swap on my 1993, the column I'm swapping in is from a 1992. Physically they look identical to one another, but for some reason I cannot for the life of me get the intermediate shaft back on, it physically doesn't fit. I don't get why, because as I said the coulms look exactly alike, are the intermediate shafts different?

The double D, it seems too large to fit on the bottom side of the shaft, bottom being the flat end not the rounded end

Do you have the original double D shaft that went with the new column? Use that and put it together at the steering box, either the rag joint or the spline connection. I am not sure, but there may be a difference between a manual steering setup and a power steering setup. The manual setup might be larger.

Be careful pulling these shafts apart at the double D. There should be a sort of leaf spring in there, that takes up the play in the double D, but also still lets it collapse in a accident. If you lose this leaf spring piece, your steering will be very sloppy.
