I bought a 93 ranger with a 3.0. but the starter needs to be replaced. I've got the bottom 2 bolts out but having a tough time deciding the best way to go at the top bolt that's awkwardly placed between the solenoid and the starter... I thought about taking off the oil filter to get it from the top or bottom but don't know. and I can't drop the transmission cause I don't have the equipment. anyone know. also is the top bolt the same size as the bottom two, if anyone know's it would just save me time from going through 3-5 sizes guessing on what I really can't even see.

starter replacement

You need about a 24" extension. All 3 bolts are the same size, 9/16 if I recall correctly. The extension will allow you to get the rachet back behind the crossover pipe. Hope this helps.

yeah with the bottom two, they didn't want to come out but some wd40 did the job. I got some extentions last night to try on this but that does help alot so thanks to you both. I've only had large trucks before, 88 ram charger on a 30 inch lift, so I've never had to work in these small spaces or shimmy around stuff. always just crawled right in and did what ever I was doing

Also a swivel head socket works well, I have like three extensions that I use to get into that crappy little spot.
