ok ive have a 96 explorer its auto i got the truck with a blown tranny but the guy gave me another one for it now to the good part once i got it in to the truck found out it was a newer one 4r55e so after ai got a diffrent starter all was good or so i thought finally got it all together and started it and now the od light is flashing a freind told ne that it had to be pluged in to a scaner and had to be reset is this true this is my only car i need some help thaks in advance

I have suffered a similar problem in the past, but with my F-350 and a different transmission. I found the problem to be a blown fuse. I would recommend checking here first. It could also be a power supply to the transmission not being connected. As far as the scanner If you merely want to reset your computer just disconnect the battery for about ten minutes. In my limited transmission experience I find a flashing OD light to mean a power supply fault.

I hope this helps.

ok i will check that out tomorow i also had to swap switch on side of trany i guess it might not be adjusted right

ok so here is where im at now got it in and keep gettin od light the code is p0715 i also replaced the vss cheched all the wires and all lookes good anybody got any ideas and is it safe to drive

Not VSS , TSS turbine speed sensor. Is internal to trans. Check the wiring harness on top of the trans and to the PCM. You wanna really check things out , pull the pan off and at the bulk head connector there is a small 2 terminal connector, that is for the TSS. Check it with an ohm meter.

thanks any idea what color the wires are coming from tranny to the pcm and also what am i checking for with the ohms meter i mean i know how to use one just wana know what to look for thanks for your help

Also depends on what year tranny you put in as they did away with one of the tss sensors for the OD drum in 1997 and up models.

well i know it is a newer one i do have one sensor on the top of the tranny kind of down on drivers side that i didnt have a plug for the explorer is a 96 if the tranny i have dose not have it on the od drum would i be able to remove the wires from the bulk head plug and use the one in the tranny that i didnt have a plug for is that what this sensor is for?

well i got to get it apart and the tss was unpluged at bulk head conector on in side of tranny have no idea why but no codes now but i think i have the 2-3 shift flair what is the best way to fix this

What does this mean? I got a 97 with a p0715 as well. If they did away with the sensor on 97s why am I getting the code?
