Ok i was at this all day today. Its a 4r44e tranny with the transfer case and i cant seem to get it to align properly with the dowel pins. I connected the tc and can get the driver side dowel in but cant seem to get the other. anyone else have any trouble putting this back in. Im in the driveway on jackstands with 2 jacks. lol also is it hard to just disconnect the transfer case and put it in once i get the tranny in?? thanks

Are you attempting to install the trans with the T-case already on it?

If so stop and seperate them.

The T-case "unbalances" the package and makes it that much harder to install the trans.

Next the "Stupid" question

Where is the torque converter during this process?

My cousin just attempted to install a 4R55E into my other cousin's '96 Explorer
and had the torque converter bolted to the engine first... and was actually suprised that the transmission was "Dead" when he started the truck....

I would have been there to wave them off of that INCREDIBLY STUPID idea,
but I was doing what Ive been doing a lot of... sitting at home feeling like
being half dead would be an improvement.

Thanks for the advice. The tcase is connected and i figured it was messing me up being lopsided but i read it was even harder to do it with it disconnected and then trying to hook the tcase back up. But obviously the first way isnt working. and The tc was in the tranny then i bolted it to the flywheel when i got close enough. thanks i will try again.

The prooper time to actually bolt the torque converter to the flywheel is AFTER you already have four bellhousing bolts not only installed but tightened.

The torque converter WILL rotate after the engine and trans are firmly
bolted together so you can align the bolt holes.

You mean the TC "should" rotate after you tighten the bell housing bolts... always check the TC and make sure it rotates as you are tightening the bellhousing bolts up. If it locks it up it is wrong and needs to be taken back apart to avoid damage to the TC.

Ok well how do u get to the tc when u bolt up the bellhousing? i can barely get to the flywheel through the starter hole??
