"Need Help" 88 Ranger Auto trans slipping out of gear

Thanks Viper Command

I am in Northern California 45min out of Sacramento the trans needs to be rebuilt? anyway to fix it in the truck? Drive was working great until I put in OD on the freeway it went out gear now drive goes out of gear letting off the gas. I need help on this as I need this truck each day. I was using the brake as I slow with a little load on the trans keeping it from going out of grear. When it does go out of gear as you slow to 5-10mph it goes back into drive

Ya bolth oneway clutches/bearings are bad.

you may not need a full rebuild, I would inspect the trans and replace the oneway units, and anything that is found along the way.

Do you know of a place in Sacramento to get a rebuilt trans? I have a friend in Modesto at Interstate Transmission that might rebuilt it at fair price, It would be better to get a rebuilt just change it

Sorry I dont know of any places up there.

Viper

Where is the best place to get a rebuilt trans have it shipped here. Also you think turning up the engine idel would keep it from going out of gear. Trying to figure out a way to keep driving it until I can get it fixed can one person alone change the trans

I talked with a Ford Tech manager he thinks it may be the converter lockup is there a solenoid for that on a A4LD? I was going on a flat surface slow through the parking lot it was thunking like it was locking and unlocking for split second

(I found this info)

A 1988 A4LD's have a overdrive and lockup torque converter solenoid.
Only had a lockup torque converter solenoid until 1987 1/2 ... about

You can tell for sure by looking at the connector going into the transmission.
2 wire: only lockup torque converter solenoid
3 wire: has both overdrive and lockup torque converter solenoid

Well I have an extra lockup solenoid. Its your if you want it.

Viper

Yes, I would very much appreciate getting that solenoid I checked it has three wires yellow red and white going into the front above the pan. This would be the two solenoid trans? 3-4 shift and lockup
