need help '87 2.9 to '94 4.0

My dads 2.9 is shot, won't idle, next to no oil pressure, runs rough at low rpms, and acts like it's missing almost all the time. We're thinking about swapping for a 4.0 but need to know what we will need.

Patient: '87 Ranger, 2.9, 5spd, 4x4, ext.cab, duel tanks

Donor: '94 Mazda Navajo 4.0, auto, 4x4, 2door

if anyone in n. arkansas or s. missiouri that has done this could I please get a phone # as my dad doesn't do computers and would like to ask some questions.

From what i read you really don't want to deal with a 94 ECU and harness.
try to get a 90 to 93 ecu and harness, you can use the motor out of the Navajo.
if you want to keep the 5 speed you will need a 4.0 5 speed since the 2.9L will not last.
