Hey guys, test driving a 2003 Ranger Edge 4x4 3.0L 5 speed today and I need to know the expected MPG. That might be the only thing holding me back from purchase.

I already know the 3.0L is somewhat a turd of a motor (in my opinion) but willing to forget that as the truck is extra clean and relatively cheap (94k miles / $8,500).

Thanks in advance!

I used to have a 99 Ranger, 3.0/stick, 4x4, I averaged about 17 in mixed driving.
Friend of mine currently has a 96 with the same drivetrain and 230,000 miles on it, he gets the same.

I have an 01 edge 4x4 3.0L 5-Speed. I just checked my mileage the other day. I'm running around 17 on the freeway, and I'd say 12-16 city driving. Mind you I don't hammer on it either. I usually just ease the throttle, baby it more less. I also have a Gibson Catback Exhaust and K&N filter system. The truck runs great, just dont expect mileage out of it. If your looking for mileage, I suggest you look into a saturn coupe 5 Speed. Those puppies run around 35-37 MPG.

My WORST is 17.5! i always get atleast 20 on the highway going 70-80mph. i pulled a 2,000 pound trailer once on I-75 to tellico N.C. and still got 18. my trucks a '98 3.0 stick 245/75-16 tires, 198,000 miles. i check my mpg every tank.

i have an 02 3.0 super cab with auto tranny. 39000 miles now. City driving I'm getting about 15-16 mpg. Not too hard on the throttle, but not a baby on it. I fill up with 87 octane also if that matters any.

My '03 4.0L gets about 17 or so in the town...if i were you i would consider holding out for the 4.0L. The little bit larger engine is always good to have...just my .02!

Thanks again guys, have made no decision yet. I really do not want a vehicle that will get less than 20 MPG highway which has ruled out some otherwise fine rigs. I won't be using it much (second vehicle), but MPG is important to me.
