It Is An Open Diff But Someone Must Have Put The S Clip In Instead Of The Usual C Clips My Gears Are Not Sunk Into The Ring Gear Like The Limited Slip

You can't weld a limited slip, you'd need an open diff to weld it up. Kind of hard to weld to clutch packs.

Huh? Limited slips have spider gears just like open diffs. You can't weld the side gears to the case, but you can weld them to the spiders for the same effect. As long as the cross-pin can still come out (you won't be able to remove a broken axleshaft otherwise).

Though I really don't like how a welded diff handles. At all.

A welded diff will handle like one with a spool. When you turn, instead of turning like you normally would, it will push you straight until one tire breaks loose. That tire will kind of slip on the pavement until you're driving straight again. Kind of weird but not too bad once you get used to it. Welded diff/spool will wear out tires a lot faster than a selectable locker, l/s or open diff too.

I don't know why you have an s clip in there. l/s diffs have both c-clips and one s-clip. I would take the s-clip out, make sure that you've got c-clips on both shafts.

Could you post a pic of the inside of your diff?

there arent the c clips in there i have taken the thing apart 3 times and the first time i took it apart it did have the s clip my gear ratio in my truck only comes open no other way and i looked at my other 3.73 axle i have which is l/s they are in no way the same. the only similarity between them was the pin and the washers for the spiders. so i do know it is an open rear but someone must have had that rear apart before and did something they werent supposed to.

and i do know what a posi rear will do i had one in my camaro i was just worried about the shimmy in my driver wheel that ive never had before so i am thinking it has to be that i dont have the right clip in there thanks everyone

Whaaaaaaaat... were there ever clips in there? Because if you don't have them, you need them. Open diffs and limited slips both have c-clips.

I would never run a welded carrier without welding the spiders to each other and to the case.

it did not have them when i pulled it aprt unless they were a couple of the pieces on the bottom of the rear when i pulled the s clip my axles pulled right out there were no other clips in there nut i did take clips out of my other rear end so that my axles do not slip out......... and the shake and jumping in the driver side wheel was because the axle was slipping out and coming loose. thnks everyone problem is now fixed. still not too sure about welding though i work at napa and get the lock rite lockers through here cheaper than i thought
