Need advise from the experts please

Ya know...it's funny that I'm suffering from the same issue, minus the misfire.:annoyed:

I don't know what the hell happened, but my mileage went from 500k to a tank to less than 300.

I put motorcraft plugs and taylor 8mm wires on a little over a year ago. I know they aren't the issue 'cause like I said already, I don't have any misfiring. It runs like it's brand new.

I'll get pics...even my computer in the center console tells me I only have 320 or so Km's before empty, but I always get less.

I did notice the difference when I started my tow truck job. The office is like 2km away from my front door. Not sure if the continuous short drives would cause a problem. :icon_confused:

Any ideas on this one?

The engine has roughly 218,000km's (135,458 miles)on it now. Could it be getting tired..even tho it still runs good?

Possible locked up fan clutch.:dunno:

Possible locked up fan clutch.:dunno:

thats a good idea. i have the same commute to work as 99. about 5 minute drive. the truck just gets warm when i get there. but my engine light came on today when i was trying to pass somebody. engine felt like it was about to drop right outa the truck, and afterwards rang horribly rough for a good 5 minutes. cant wait to get these wires in. the blue look will look cool, plus fix my troubles once and for all:headbang:

oh on a side note, my truck runs great at idle and around town. its when im at speed and i give it gas, that it shakes extremely hard.

Damn, I went out to check if the fan clutch is locked...it's not. :annoyed:

Back to square one I guess....

i dont think by turning it you could tell if its locked. basicly, i think it would still move free, it just wont allow it to adjust based on temp like normal.

replace your air filter and fuel filter, swap the plugs and check you tire pressure. also check your brakes for rubbing or drag, and even wheel bearings.

basically anything that can fight the engines power
:icon_cheers:

Is there any surefire way of checking the fan clutch? Or am I just going to have to swap it out and prey that it solves the problem? And yes, I guess it's due for a tune-up.

if your fan clutch goes 99% of the time, it's the thermal aspect of it, it locks solid, regardless of tempature, or it free wheels regardless, the other test (when it's hot) is to try to spin it, it shouldn't make it 1/2 turn after you let go, it should stop almost immediately... that being said a locked up fan shouldn't rob as much energy as you are talking about, my old race car had, for the longest time (6 years or so) a solid mount fan, it spins the water pump's speed regardless, and we didn't notice much difference in power when we put the e-fan on...

Interesting notion. I know my serpentine belt gives out a screech when I first turn the truck on in the morning. Cold or not. Lasts about 5 seconds.

that sounds like a worn belt, just like tires, the compounds in the belts get harder and lose their adhesion as they age, put a new belt on there, bet you $5 it fixes your problem, i'll even paypal you the $5 if i'm wrong

funny, my cold fan stops almost as soon as you let it go. i cant spin it a full rotation to save my life.

as for my MPG and missfire problem, i found a cut in my sparkplug boot, and the tech who did the work on my truck broke the plug putting it in. what a jackass.

well there's your problem! your fan should spin freely when the motor is cold though... if it doesn't your fan clutch is done... probably time for a new one, but it's small potatoes it's not going to drain any more power than turning the ac on (maybe a little more than that) or putting it in 4wh (non live axle trucks)

a broken spark plug would cause what you said, take it back to them get them to pay for the parts they damaged, the boot would be the more expensive part...
