Need 4.0 HELP!

Ok, this morning I tried looking for a vac. leak with propane and could'nt find any. I had 2 more DTC codes come up: P1131 and P1151=Lack of HO2S11 & HO2S21 switch sensor indicates lean. My EGR valve is leaking exhaust, on the flat boss on the under side, there is about a 1/4" and a 1/8" hole side by side, they are blowing exhaust out, it looks like something is missing from the holes, not sure as I dont have another one to look at, any ideas?

You may be onto something, any exhaust leak in front of the exhaust tip should be looked into, especially if it is before the o2's. I'm unfamilar with your years EGR, 94's dont have them, but...a trip to your local parts retailer may allow you to examine a new part to see if something other than a gasket came unglued.

Good luck

I looked on NAPA's website at the EGR's, they listed 4 or 5 with pics although it showed the side next to the engine, not the side I needed to see. Most were 80 or 90 bucks, the one listed for mine was $180.00! I tried to do a make shift smoke test today using the wifes hair dryer sealed up to the throttle body with duct tape and hoping to let it draw in smoke and blow it into the intake, I guess the hair dryer didnt like blowing into a confined space so well, not enough air flow through it to keep it cool, it bit the dust (Wife not happy)!

Fix your exhaust leak first before spending any more money on other parts. The exhaust leak before your o2 sensor is causing false readings and subsequently adjusting your fuel trims accordingly to these wrong readings. Also, if the exhaust leak is in the egr tube or egr valve, you are introducing a huge vacuum leak into the engine. Since you've described this as a problematic area, I would bet its the culprit. You can get an egr valve and gasket at the local parts store, but the egr tube is a dealer only part afaik. Good luck and let us know what happens...

I figured out that the small hole in my EGR is a threaded screw hole, so I talked to the ford parts dept. and they didnt think anything went where the holes were, so I fashioned a small plate and a gasket and run a small screw in to hold it tight, it works well but I just can't figure out why the holes are there if their not used? Anyone else have a 96 with an EGR like this? I used carb cleaner today looking for a vacuum leak, didn't find any gasket leaks but found the tube coming from the EGR into the intake leaking (just like RangerDude described), does this take a gasket or an O-ring or something?

Problem solved! Back to running like a champ. Had a vacuum leak where EGR tube goes into the upper intake, got it sealed up and it runs fine. THANKS for helping to point me in the right direction!:icon_thumby:
