Not really a site problem. (More of a people problem.) But IDK where else to suggest this:
Would it be possible or feasible to auto-lock threads with a last post date older than say 3 years or something? Maybe with an option to request unlocking of some form? I know it'd add to moderator workload. I'll volunteer to help if that's ok.

It’s a problem. I don’t know if it’s just noobs that don’t understand how a forum works or if it’s AI digging for answers.

Traditionally we don’t lock posts unless we have to. Every once in awhile a necro thread gets brought back and actual useful information gets posted that can help people moving forward, but too often it’s a useless contribution.

It has been noticed and it is being discussed.

Usually it's not a big deal. Happening a lot the last few days with one particular user though. My first thought is that the occasional thread necro isn't a big deal and might not be worth instituting a policy over.

I dont usually care either but i feel it plugs up the "recent threads" list and people who need help in 2025 might get passed over for someone who asked "whats the biggest tire with no lift" during obamas first term
