Its closed knuckle it shouldnt matter what it is, I wouldnt run it. But It looks to be a closed knuckle 60

whats wrong with closed knuckle? btw it has a 10 bolt cover if that means anything.

I think what you have here is a closed-knuckle Dana 60 axle or possibly a D70. The dana 44 axles have 10 bolts but so does the D60. The part gives it away will be the 12bolts I think I see on the seal around the knuckle.

Here's a link from one of the tech pages here to let you know the disadvantages of a closed-knuckle.

It's a closed knuckle 60. Low pinion. On these axles the stub shafts and hubs are the same as a 44. The gears are the same as the 60 rear but have very corse spline spiders. Not to mention drum brakes this axle isn't worth running. You would be better off running a 8 bolt high pinion 44 out of a 78-79 truck. Tha closed knuckle 60 is only worth $100 max. Thats what I just sold one for and it took me 2 years to get that much out of it lol.

Im building a pulling truck no off-roading well some but mainly pulling. is this a strong axle?

Not really very strong. No more so than a dana 44. Probably harder to get parts for.

It will probally hold up. I've heard of a few people around me swearing buy those axles for pulling. You can always run it for now and just swap in another axle once you find one. It will only be a few hours to change it out if you find a newer 60 front.

awesome thanks! I guess that was the answer I was looking for.
