pretty sure the jesus clip was the only thing keeping the spacer on, which was the only thing keeping the outer nut on. that god for that clip. anyway, i ended up pulling both sides apart and checking the outer bearings and races and both sides were fine, so i repacked the bearings and reinstalled per the instructions you guys gave. however i could only torque to 150ft lbs cause thats as high as my torque wrench goes. will be checking them periodically to ensure the nuts stay where they should be and if all goes well ill toss a new hub on the driver side.

The inner nut is not supposed to be tight. You take up all of the slack with a 35ft# application of torque and then back it off gently until you feel the torque release. Then you give it about 25 inch-pounds and install the washer. Then the outer nut goes on to 150ft#

When I see people having problems I just know they don't know what the fuk they are doing and it hurts me. Do you have a manual? DO you know how to check the spindle bearings? You have an old truck--17 years old. Hell, are the axle joints original? Those bind up and don't feel like being axle joints and wobble around and destroy shit. My truck is hammered on the outside, but the maintenance is perfect. I generally assume other people that have unmashed fenders and such also service their important parts. I need to realize this isn't true.

These parts aren't built anymore. If you screw up a shaft or a spindle because you didn't pull the shafts and service it you hurt the whole community. Every sperm is sacred around here. You can't just bust parts and laugh. I buy shafts and things just to have them. Money is not the object, availability is. If you don't know the condition of your axle joints and spindle bearings--pull it apart. Don't destroy parts for nothing. If you bust something while using it in a Christian manner--like on a fill power hill climb--I'll forgive you. Your's seems to need some maintenance.

Service your front axle and we'll send you a glow-in-the-dark jesus.

the inner nuts arent tight, i reinstalled them just as 4x4junkie suggested. yes i have a manual. i dont know how to inspect spindle bearings but the races looked good and the bearings got cleaned and repacked. i know the front end needs to be gone through as most of it is original stuff and itll get done with i can do it.

sorry my trucks maintenance isnt up to your standards. i came here looking for help and information, not a lecture.

That spacer looks from here like it has a big chunk of it worn out of the middle I would replace it. or find something to fill in the space that the spacer should be taking up. I dont think you will find something though.

sorry you got that lecture. guess there are times when we all forget that everyone here is doing the best they can with what they have. that includes knowledge, skill level, equipment, and money. i try to keep that in mind when posting responses and when asking questions of my own. i hope we're all here to learn and share with understanding and respect.

You go to college , sit in on a lecture , you gain knowledge. Some are to thin skinned. Your lecture has just taught me something I didn't know about parts availability. Guess I'll have to do a major service on my son's (Larry) axle. Preventive mainteance is WAY cheaper than repair.
