my new file server/NAS

Ij ust got finished putting this together,

1 raspberry pi
(4) 1 TB hard drives
usb wif adapter
powered usb hub

its gonna be serving up movies and music and misc. to all the computers in the house through a samba shared virtual raid 5 drive. :headbang:

Sounds like a good home system...but I must admit I had to look up samba shared VR5...been a while since I even thought about computer geek stuff and I'm getting rustier than my Ranger at it...lol
 
i had to look them up too, its the first time ive attempted a raid and samba server, but its a well documented process on the web
 
How are you powering them up and I guess you used at least $ gigs of memory.
 
the pi is usb powered just like cell phone and the hard drives are powered by the usb hub so everything plugs into two power outlets, it doesnt have a monitor keyboard or mouse, i just remote in with ssh to throw commands at the command line interface.
