My first manual

I remember “forgetting “ I was in a automatic once as I came to a stop sign, out of habit I went to mash the clutch in, caught the corner of the brake pedal. One other time I went to back up and reached for a floor shift lever that didnt exist in that vehicle. And when dad had the 89 big bronco (302/4-speed) I kept trying to find 5th gear at 50 mph.

I kept putting my 65 mustang in reverse since first is left down and reverse is left up.

The hard part is learning how to start from a stop on a hill. That part takes a bit more practice. A hand brake is mighty helpful in that instance but you get the hang of it eventually and will drift back less than a vehicle equipped with an automatic.

That is part of the optional work. The brake cable is missing. I saw a brake dragging tendency mentioned here.

Yep. I had a couple of passengers the time I went for the clutch in an automatic like that. They weren't impressed.

Yeah, you definitely need to get that fixed on a stick shift vehicle. One should use the parking/emergency brake with any vehicle but it's more critical with a manual transmission.

I put out a short 2x6 in the winter in my driveway, I drive over it and let vehicle roll back so its against it, not a steep driveway but is downhill, lol

A few years back we got an extra cold blast and my E-brakes wouldn't release, moisture/water in the cables froze hard
Couldn't release e-brakes
Spent some time on my back with a heat gun to thaw out the cables, lol

I did spray lube inside cables, in the summer, to try and displace any moisture.........................but still don't trust it :)

When I did it, it was at the marina...you know where everyone is watching to see you back the boat down the ramp. I swung in and crushed the clutch to the floor...unfortunately, it was the wide brake pedal on the Montego, and everyone got a close up of the dash...

Yeah. .manuals are about extinct
