My Dana 30 SAS

Problem with the xj track bar is that one end is a bj. I believe the one from a yj has bushings on both ends. They sell adjustable track bars for either which makes fine tuning a little easier, some of them are crap though.

i made my own track bar with a piece of 1.5"x.25" wall DOM with an energy suspension bushing sleeved in a piece of DOM on the axle end and then a 3/4" heim on the frame end

Trac-Bar

Not going with a stock XJ trac-bar. Rusty's and a few other sites have HD Trac-Bar kits that are fully adj. I read in a thread that one guy used a xj trac- bar, just wanted to see if anyone else did also. I'm probably going to have to make a new trac-bar mount on my axle anyways due tot the fact that I am running steering on top of the knuckle and it might hit or bind with the trac-bar.:dunno:

Back to work....

Got time last night to do some more work. Got my DIY cover yesterday and put it together. Got it off 4wheelparts.com.

3/8" ring, bolted to the 8.8.

Tacked it together :icon_welder:, screwed up the first time, did it wrong (dumbass)

Im no pro, self taught actually. Bout a nice welder back in October 2011 for my own b-day gift and started burning wire and haven't stopped.

Other stuff..

I took some time and snapped a few pic of the other things I got for my swap. Just ordered my steering links last night too, got it from Ruff Stuff.

Dana 30 all painted up. Used chassis saver on it, and it came out great.

Will be back with more when I get more work done. Buddy of mine is doing some powder coating for me, will post up when I get it back.

Im running a stock trackbar on mine. Reason being is my truck is my DD and I was doing everything (okay still doing) on a budget. But also If for some reason i broke something, I can go to a parts store and get a replacement part.

Heres the trackbar that i do want.

Trac-Bar

That is a nice set up, but, I wanna stay away from hyme joints. Would like to stick to serviceable and rebuild able parts. Rustys makes a nice one. Just not sure what to get yet because I don't know how much I will need in the front to match the back. Hate to buy a trac-bar and it be too long or short.

Get an adjustable one. You can get replacement parts for them but they cost a bit more but also they can take more abuse too. I can get an adjustable one with a TRE if i don't want to change my mounts but since my coils are attached to my coil buckets, i don't need something that has extreme flex either. I plan on putting limiting straps of some kind on mine. As for my axle being centered, it's very close, Driverside sticks out a tad bit more but doesn't effect the handling, tracking, etc... plus no bump steer that i notice.

Go with an adjustable one, because as the springs break-in and settle, the axle moves to the passenger's side.

Mine moved so far there wasn't enough range in 2 hiem joints, and the bar had to be shortened. But mine is also very tall with a questionable amount of angle on the trackbar.

Be weary of what you buy though. I originally had the adjustable one from Tom's Bronco Parts, and bent the hell out of the threaded section. The one I have now was made from DOM and 3/4 hiems and survived tons of abuse and a rollover.

Trac-Bar

Thanks for the input and heads up on the axle shift. Planned on going with an adjustable set up from the get go, just unsure of what one to buy. Rustys has a nice one as well as iron rock. When the times comes to buy I will dig a lil deeper I guess.

More paint...

Just got done painting up the last of my parts for my swap. Doing all the painting now to save the headache of when its in the truck.

I also modded some stock ranger coil buckets of a 97 and trimmed them up to work for my set up.

Going to mount F250 shock towers in place of stock shock mounts.
And on the front axle I moved my stock shock mounts up with IRO bolt on kit.

These will eliminate the t-bar style shock in the front, which happen to slide out, truck me my ifs set up in my truck runs them and they suck.

Hoping to mount my new control arm bushings and ball joints tomm. Long arm kit and gears on the way, will post up pics when I get them.:yahoo:

It's nice seeing another Dana 30 build. Looks good.

Your going to love the long arms. They have improved them since I got mine. Took two weeks fir mine to come in and a screw driver to take them out of the packaging.

somemore little stuff...

Busy this week but got some time to do a little work. Managed to get my ball joints in, shock relocation brackets, and upper control arm bushings done too.
Ball joints were a pain without a third hand just to hold all the adapters in place while trying to hold the press at the same time:pissedoff:, but I got it eventually.

To install the new control arm bushings on the axle side I bought the adapters you need to use with a ball joint press from summitracing.com Got a pic here of what they look like and a part number.
