My BII 4.0 swap


Got a little done today, the dash and steering column are out of the exploder. Got the engine bay wiring harness in, and the new brake and clutch pedals in.

On this last pic is where the steering column was. the exploder column is bigger and won't fit through that hole, also the bolt pattern is different. I think five instead of three bolts. I'm wondering what other people have done to modify it so it'll fit
 
I painted the new dash and test fit it today. I think I really like the black, I still need to do some touch up on it tho.

Did you have to do any modifications to the fire wall for the Explorer dash to fit? Are you going to be able to keep the PCM in the stock location (passenger side kick panel)?
 
I have to weld tabs on the firewall because the mounts don't line up from the old one, also I have to enlarge the hole for the steering column to fit.

The computer fit in the old location when I swapped all the wiring over. It's amazing how .all the wiring just pretty much snaps in
 
Ok so I'm about to wire the fuel pump but I'm not completely sure which plug is the correct one.

Here is the plug from the explorer side of the harness that I'm pretty sure the pink and black wire is fuel but not %100 sure

Now there is a plug that splits to two wires that I think is the main power to the pumps. problem is that I jumped this wire to see if it would turn on and nothing....

Then I found this plug in the old wiring harness but couldn't find the female plug it connects to

Can someone tell me what plug this is?

I'm getting so frustrated. :annoyed: I know I've got the right wire on the explorer harness but I can't seem to get the the damn pump to turn on. I've jumped all three pink and black wires that lead to the pump and I get nothing
 
Relay is in and I have power up but no workie. pump worked fine when I pulled the 2.9. I just think I don't have this wired right. The damn wiring diagrams suck on chiltons. wish I had all data

isnt the fuel pump in an 86 the only one thats actually a booster pump in the fuel tank and A booster pump in line congrats on the 4.0
 
Ya Its got two pumps. I think 86-88 does?
 
That 3 wire harness you don't need. Leave it alone. You need to get the plug that is up underneath the brake booster. It is down towards the brake lines more. There is an orange/black wire and a pink/black wire in that plug, splice together and tie into the pink/black wire in the explorer harness.

There's a big rectangle plug near the small plug you need. Goes down towards the drivers frame rail and to the pump. Let me know when you find it.

Also, how are you planning on doing the rest of your wiring? Are you using the explorer power distribution or not? I may be the only one to not use it. I only needed 2 wires out of it anyways. What tranny do you have in your BII? There are a few other wires to hook up and must be hooked up before your fuel pump should work.

I'm using all the wiring from the dash harness to the computer and headlight harness. most everything is wired up and I do have voltage to turn the fuel pump on already. I'm using an m5od for the transmission.

Now the rectangle plug your talking about has all the the tail light wiring and I've got that taken care of along with the sending unit wire. I've got the pink/black and orange/black wire spliced in but still no fuel...
