My '99 4x4 RegCab Steppie Build

UPDATE:

Well I've got it running and driving, now just working out the little things. I've only received one CEL and pulled a P1309 code. I installed a new cam sensor when I installed the engine and I went with an aftermarket unit, so this may be my problem.

The only other issue I've had is with the idle. It starts and runs fine but if I blip the throttle, it will almost die, idle up and down for awhile, like it can't figure out where the throttle is. The throttle response also feels a little off. Upon take off, it will jump up in the throttle, like the actual throttle and timing aren't in sync. Not sure what the problem is.

Anyway, here are some vid clips and pictures of the progress.

Nothing like the sound of a V8 Ranger!

Like you, I worked the paint on my '93. I am really surprised (in a good way) that after many years of wheeling, my paint is now white and shiny.

Your truck looks really nice.

You need a "V8" emblem on the fender!

That's crazy! So you sold it?

I too have one that I wished I never sold. I'd buy it if I ever found it again. It's like this one's opposite, I'm hoping a little more work on my white one and I'll forget all about it.

Thanks! It looked like it had never been washed when I bought it, but after some washing/wet sanding/polishing, it looked great.

Maybe I'll add a V8 emblem, but I like confusing people.

Yup my 99 needed $1,500 of work put into it. Stupid me traded it in instead of fixing. Stupid stupid move. Learned since than lol. This explorer has my about $3,000 deep in work and I learned how to do quite a few of those fixes myself (Balljoints, Alternator, Brakes, rotors, calipers, radiator, Electrical work etc...) Back than I did not know very much at all and had the mindset that payments of a brand new truck that wouldn't give me any problems was the way to go instead of worrying about a brake down. Long story short I should of just fixed the damn thing. Whoever is driving in now a days (It's been almost 5 years) has a hell of a truck still I'm sure.

wow my iphone changes words around......

Well I've put about 500 miles on it now with zero major issues. I still have the idle issue after a blip in park, it's like it's trying to find the right rpm and it rolls up and down, not sure why.

Everything works. Tach, speedo, cruise, and I love my Cougar dual electric fans. My only upgrade besides the air filter. Mpg is about 15 and should get a little better with more break in time, some tm headers and bigger tires. Amazing how plug and play this swap was, and now this thing is a beast! I can't wait to do another one or lend a hand to anyone attempting this swap, it was a blast. I still have a short list of upgrades, but for the most part it is done.

Some pics of the completed front end swap. Let me know what you think!

Lookin good man, talk about brreathing new life into something ya love. That's a whole new truck.. and a whole lot of motor. I figured the gas mileage would be better though, I've been hearing that people get around 25mpg's being that it doesn't require as much power to move such a light vehicle. I have also read other threads where they talk about hte idling issue. I am curious how to remedy this.

Nicely done sir!

The low mpg is due to the gear ratio, 410 is way too steep. I'm running 410s in my Trac with 32" tires (275/55/20) and I get 17-18 mpg, but mine needs a tuneup. Get a tuner with a custom tune and you will get another mpg or two along with a little more power. Double check timing, as well as the cps location. A tune can also help pinpoint the idle issues...

Driving it daily right now so I installed some Bilsteins on the front and some new BFG's.
