My 91 Explorer build......finally.

need to invest in some new boots haha :) im going to build a explorer this summer

What was wrong with the 31 spline 8.8 that was in the explorer?

Yep, HahnsB2 got it. The 8.8 that went in was already stuffed with 4.56s, a Lock-Right with less than 1000 miles on them.

Alrighty, it's all done and driving... Time for pictures.

We ended up grinding about 1/4" off the back side of this body mount to get the axle placed just a little bit farther forward, after borrowing a friend's 33x12.5 and seeing it was pretty tight in the back part of the wheelwell.

Sitting on all 4, rolled out of the garage.

After messing with the alignment and getting it pretty damn close, I ran up to the store and tried to find a stock Explorer to park next to for comparison... I had almost given up with I spotted this!

One of three other green lifted Explorers in town. One is on 32s and 2 are on 31, one is spring over.

Now I'm even more glad I found a red one. :icon_thumby:

Didn't have any problems, except for the lack of tread, haha. I need some 33s pretty bad.

so the tuff country brackets dont work well then?.. ive got the same ones for my ole mans 93 explorer iam gonna build up in a few weeks..

Yeah they sucked to mount up. A friend has them on his Ranger and they fit ok, so you may get lucky, but I'd say that no, they're not gonna fit worth crap.

If you got some money for brackets, the skyjackers are much better. They fit great and very heavy beef. You can get them from TRS fab and offroad. Nice to see you got a nice explorer tho.

I think I'm gonna stick with these brackets since we put so much time into them and they're very solid now. I'm pretty pleased with how they came out for as crappy as they were.

Yay! I'm so happy you found an explorer to build! Its really nice having a 4.0 and 5 speed isn't it :)

The one picture with your passenger tire in the picture makes your steering look really really bad.

Yeah, I really like the 4.0 with those gears. I need some 33s and a little throatier exhaust so I can tell that I'm spinning 3500 RPM at like 25 in 2nd, lol.

Wow 4:56 changes the gearing that much? At 3500 rpm in 2nd in my explorer I was rolling 40 mph! I had 3:73 gears.

Yeah that was before I messed with it a bit, and it wasn't quite sitting with all it's weight on that corner. It's not ideal, but I have seen much worse and it has pretty good road manners, so I'm content with temporarily until I change it to something as things progress.

It had 3.55s gears in it and jumping up to 4.56s increases the RPMs by like 25% but I jumped up tire size too.. I'm also not used to 4.0 either, but I'll get it.

Yeah true, I got used to my 4.0 pretty quick after the 1st rip in the rain. Being young and having all that power (lol 180 hp) got me into alot of trouble. Makes me miss my explorer.
