I came across my Haynes Manual for my truck and seen that the truck picured is actually a 2.9 MAF California truck.

So this got me wandering if I could put a MAF sensor on my truck but using almost stock pieces. The pieces (pictured below) came from a 1993 Explorer and a Taurus. Off the Explorer is the airbox and intake duct from the core support, and off the Taurus is the MAF sensor with the part number of F1ZF-12B579-AA from the MAF Conversion article. I've yet to get the computer but this is what I've got so far. PLease comment and give opinions.

I like your thinking.

Also, it's been a long time since I've looked closely at the cover of that manual, but isn't that truck a 4.0?

no, look at the goofy ****in plenum.

Noticed the maf 2.9L on the cover of that years ago lol. Don't be surprised if you run into issues with the 3.8L MAF suggested in the article as is. Note that they mention recalibration, or running the IST Mass Air Adjuster. BTDT

That motor does look more like a 4.0 then the 2.9. I had 2.8 and a 2.9 L motors on my early Rangers and my early Bronco II's. They were great little motors. Do your own thing, Bro!!!! Keep us posted!!!

Per RockAuto and Cardone's information the MAF sensor and housing for a 1990 Ford Ranger with a 2.9, it will work on the following vehicles, so the assumption could also be made that any of the sensor's and housings off these vehicles will work on a 2.9:
