Mufflerless

go magnaflow....slowmaster sux bawls. my buddy had valve problems after running straightpipes on his 95 for about 6 months...put a nice sounding exhaust on your rig...its worth it....

p.s....ditch the cat

theres no advanatge to removing the cat, and you risk a hefty fine from the government in doing so. leave the cat alone.

+1. I removed my cat, and its really useless to do. No performance or mileage gains. Plus its illegal. I dont have legal issues since i live in montana and they dont inforce that B.S. But it sounds crappier without than with.

i have a welded thrush 40 bucks cheaper than the flowmaster and sounds better

i got a 4.0 w/ both cats

ive got both cats on with about 2 foot of pipe afterwards then goes right through the bed with a flapper on top.:D sounds great ivw had a cop tell me so haha

My 4.0 mufflerless gives me a headache :annoyed: throwin the new exhaust on today, though

na man ditch the cat

i got a 2.3 5 speed i made a cold air kit with no cat and stock muffler sounds great a little rumble and im getting on avrage 30mpg on the interstate doing about 70 and i got a noticable power gain

i really dont know why people say its not worth it

a 2wd gen 3 2.3 is rated at nearly 30 MPG and ive heard of people getting over 30 on a bone-stock truck. you havnt gained anything by removing the cat. there is still no reason to remove the cat. there are only negitive side effects to doing so.

well i wont lie the only reason i lost my cat is cuz i was using a qt every 1000 miles and it stopped up 3 times in 6 months, other than that id leave it on, it evens out the idle by creating a lil backpressure to stabilize it, not have the lope from lack of backpressure and causing lower idle speeds like mine did which is partly to blame for its demise. the last muffler i had was a super 44, sounds alright to about 2200 rpm on a 30 v6, but after that it just was a BLLLLLAAAAAHHHHH.......and i hated it. next time im going to experiment w/ a magnaflow 3 inch cat and turbo style magnaflow, unless somebody else has a suggestion.

I don't know how you Lima guys manage 30mpg figures, lol. My V8 truck originally had a 2.3L and 5 speed with 77,XXX miles. Drove it like that for about 5-6 months before pulling it. Maybe its the hills in Wisconsin or something, but I couldn't get anything over 23-24mpg average. Hell, I'd have to floor it and drop her to 3rd to get up some of them hills and maintain 55mph. Those things are dogs. I think dumping the exhaust and gutting your cat on that motor is going to cost you torque (there isn't much there to begin with) which is probably going to hurt your mileage.

i had a 95 lima manual tranz, stock size tires.. best i ever got was 24 mpg..

my 07 duratec pulls over 30 easily without even tryin

dude ur always on the ball.:icon_thumby:

Yeah, happens around here quite a lot with town cops. Half the guys with trucks take it off and leave it in the bed just because they want to be loud. The cop always believes them the first time but then he makes a note to himself of watching for them, and pulls them over about a week later. If they still have it off he locks the truck and they either walk home or get a ride from him with their nice new ticket. He got me for my rear bumper, I took it off then drove a bit before I had a chance to put the new one on. I had it in the bed and he took one look at it and laughed, said the thing was so rusty it probably didn't matter anyway. I got the new bumper on that weekend.

i seem to remember hearing something about rear bumpers still being optional on 3rd gen rangers. not sure how accurate the info was and i dont think ive ever seen one without the bumper...but if its true he technically couldnt say anything about you driving without it.

Ive never had to walk home but they have given me a 72 hour notice to get it fixed and then i had to fix it and bring it to a reporting center. My old 92 was tagged by the police so i got pulled over for going 62 in a 60 every other day. Im glad i sold the green bomber. and wow i posted this thread a long time ago.:yahoo:
