Hey there guys,
I just joined here and i must say wow! Theres soooo much info on this sight I'm definatly gonna recomend it to anyone with an RBV.

I just had one question pertaining to a new muffler. I do alot of highway driving, so i dont really want a overly loud exhaust sytem, but I'd like to free up some horsepower, and let the cars that Im passing know that Ive got a pair... lol. :thefinger:
Something nice and quite in the low RPM's and when i really rev it out (which I must admit is too often) I'd like to hear it.

Any suggesions would be a great help
thanks:cool:

Bump your pipe size up to 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 and add a flowmaster or thrush muffler.

and dont expect horsepower gains. there is none to be had from just a cat back exhaust.

the latter reason, however, is perfectly reasonable and understandable

thats for your help
I didnt expect a whole lot of HP gains or anything really, it would just be nice
I have a 98 Ranger, so i am under the asumption that there are a sh!t load of cats on it. would putting in a full system and eliminating these destroy my emissions when it comes time to AIRCARE it?

yes, removing the cats will cause the truck to fail emissions. its also against federal law and punishable by a hefty fine.

the cat converters used on these trucks are very high quality units....they already flow more than enough for your engines needs...so replacing them with so called "high flow cats" is also a waste of money.

a quality set of headers might free up a few HP...but thats about all you can do performance-wise with exhaust.

how is a flowmaster 40 series for interior resonance. I took the cats and rest of the pipes off my truck and even at 1500 rpm it vibrated the mirrors in the cab. I certainly don't want that although it was cool for a bit. Does it make a difference where the muffler is mounted like just behind the passenger seat or under the bed. Hows the sound/noise at cruising speeeds?
