Hey folks,

Muffler heat shield is loose, and that seems to be the source of my exhaust rattle. It looks like there's a channel of sorts going around the whole thing roughly in the center that would be a nice place for a metal strap/hose clamp to go... Is there supposed to be one there (right now there isn't)? This is a '94 XLT 4x4 w/ xt. cab and 5spd.

Not sure I have anything laying around that fits that description. Does that shield get hot enough to melt through plastic tie-wraps, or can I go ahead and throw a few of those on there?

Thanks.

I've heard on here that a hose clamp is the way to go, altho I've yet to try it on my '94.

Hose clamps were my first thought too, but I didn't think I had any big enough. Turns out I had a few laying around from old clothes dryer exhaust piping. 2 of those daisy-chained did the trick.

I'm still curious about plastic tie-wraps for that purpose though. Don't know why, I've just always wondered about it.

Thanks.

-Bill
