Mpg help

just bought my fifth ranger in my lifetime this one is a 98 2.5 love the truck but the mileage seems real bad check engine came on checked codes says egr valve can a bad egr cause bad mpg?

yes it can. the EGR is designed to recirculate exhaust through the motor, re burning what is left over, and helping to save you fuel.

Well when i bought my ranger my mpg was down the crapper. turned out to be just a horrible air filter that was so clogged it dropped my mpg by 4 if not more then that
