MotorCraft or other brands

I try to find whatever has a lifetime warranty if I can for replacement parts, usually ending up with BWD/Borg Warner. O'Reillys even honorred it for the DPFE sensor when it went out, whihc is cool since the damned things seem to go about once a year, so thi last time around it was free. Otherwise, I have Autolite plugs, Quaker full synthetic 5W-30, Motorcraft filter, Gatorback belt, Sensatrac shocks all around, and thats about it. Original specifications on the dealer delivery sheet (was tucked in owners manual - apparently my truck was about $24,000 new) specifies Goodyear Wrangler OWL tires, but as others on here and other places have mentioned, they wore ridiculously fast, so switched to Uniroyal Liberators. Oddly enough, my spare is a Firestone, and it's apparently original because it's one of those stupid "TEMPORARY USE ONLY 45MPH MAX" tires... still havent figured that one out..

I always use motorcraft parts unless its an emergency, in which case i pick up whatever is most conveniant, till i pick a motorcraft. All fluids are valvoline.

what do you guys think about those new Bosch oil filters? Think they are any good? I noticed that they are like $10-15$, pertty much the same price of the k&noil filters.

this^^^^ i always get the lifetime garuntee..i replaced the alternater and the starter on my 76 f250 with a buddy of mine, well we were late for work, and he wired up my alternater wrong while i was installing the starter, and i didnt check his work..we made to work, but on the way home my truck was running really rough, came up to a stop sign and it looked like somebody started welding underneath the hood. i turned the key off but it kept "running" and sparking, it stopped when we ripped the battery cable off..

i took my brand new starter and my brand new alternater back to the parts store the next day, told them exactly what happened...and they handed me brand new replacements..even though it was an installation error, completely my fault...the lifetime garuntee parts were only like another 25 bucks a piece, totally worth it:headbang:

For some things you NEED MC parts. For somethings aftermarket will do, but MC will do it better for longer (TFI modules come to mind). For some things, any old aftermarket part will do.

For hasn't always made their own stuff. The TFIs and O2 sensors were never produced in house. Same with a few other parts, but the key there is knowing who built what for them. TFIs and O2s were made by Bosch for example. MC oil is just re-packed Castrol. MC oil filters are made in house and not a re-brand AFAIK. Just gotta do some research.

something wierd i noticed a few years back. i was having a coolant issue, had replaced the t-stat-which didnt fix the problem. so then i replaced the water pump. well i live behind an autozone, so i walked down there and bought a valucraft water pump (i was unemployed and broke) i get home and it has 'motorcraft' stamped on the front.....wtf is that about? valucraft cannot be the same thing as valucraft

I'm using one now. In truth, they are probably too much in price for a filter that will be thrown away later. I go 5K miles on my oil, which lasts me the whole year. I also run full synthetic oils. I will cut open the oil filter when its done to see how well it hold up and what it caught. Any other time, I use Motorcraft, PureOne, or Puralator.

Motorcraft oil is actually made by Conoco-Phillips. Motorcraft filters are just re-badged Purolators.

I use a lot of Napa stuff, simply because I work there and get a really good discount, and I know which parts are good and which are crap.

Just because they were made by somebody else doesn't really mean a whole lot. They were made to Ford spec, which may be different than their own brand.

You bought a rebuild pump. They take a factory pump and put new guts in it, so it is a old factory "Motorcraft" housing with the valucraft guts.

The better Carquest pump I got for my 302 was the same deal, still says Motorcraft on it.

What about MC coolant? Would love to hear opinions on that. Is it really some special blend that only Zerex can match? Or is good ol' green ethylene glycol ok for our trucks?

When I scrounge in the junk yard I look for Motorcraft...amazing what you can find..someone tries to fix their truck and ends up scraping it after putting in new parts...

For engine parts I like Motorcraft, for brakes and suspension stuff quality aftermarket is usually better and cheaper.

Also if you belong to AAA and show them your card you will get a 7% discount at NAPA. :icon_thumby:

Do MotorCraft spark plugs work any better in a Ranger, than AutoLite spark plugs?

Or, are they both made by the same company?

I get a 10% discount at Advance Auto Parts, and so do the rest of you with a military ID, current or veteran.
