Why would you not want to use what your manual recommends?

If your high mileage engine is using some oil between changes just use the RECOMMENDED weight in high mileage formula along with 1 quart of lucas oil.

just because i work for a forklift company and thats the oil we use and i have a lot of it

With the 3.0L's cam synchro issue, I would use 5w-30 motor oil.

Newer engine tolerances are so EXACT that you really need to use what the manual says.

No its not going to hurt it. I use 10w40 in my 2000 3.0 with 184,000 miles so far. Have used that weight since 100,000 miles. It brings my oil pressure up above spec at 2500 rpms. BUT, I do agree with the other posters, you really do need to stick with 5w30 or 10w30.

If your engine has a problem holding correct oil pressure it should be fixed instead of using thicker oil/additives... They are just band-aids...

It won't hurt your engine. Emissions are hard to control on engine start up. Mfgrs use different means to combat the problem. Lighter weight oil is one method. It has nothing to do with engine clearances. At the mileage indicated, clearances would not be a consideration anyway. 40 weight is a little heavy for normal driving conditions and mileage may suffer.shady

I'm going to toss my two cents in with the stick to 5w-30 crowd. I'm assuming that the 3.0 has rollerbearings some place in the valve train, so I would stick to what the book calls for.

With 168,000 miles on the engine, as long as you keep clean oil in it, slight variations in the viscosity rating shouldn't matter. Make sure the oil is rated for gasoline burning engines. If the fork lifts are propane powered, and the oil is specific to the fork lift engines, it may not be of the proper rating.
